What is causing low fps on Overwatch

Hello everyone,

I recently completed my first build, and started playing Overwatch on it. I couldn't get smooth gameplay with my r7 240, so I upgraded to a GTX 1050TI, which I heard was a powerhouse that could run most games 60fps ultra settings. So I tried it out, got the right drivers installed, and everything was going well until I launched the game and now I can't even get a consistent 30 fps.
I don't think the error is on the gpu end, since I have stats for nerds on and the memory speeds increase as it gets harder, but it's jumpy and will occasionally freeze. Do I just have a crappy part that should get replaced?

Cpu- AMD A6-7400K
Motherboard- Gigabyte GA-f3a68hm-H
memory- 8GB DDR3 1600 MHz
Hdd's: Western digital blue caviar 500GB 7200RPM, Hitachi travelstar 1TB 7200RPM
PSU-EVGA 430w 80+ Bronze
OS: Windows 10 pro 64 bit

That's an APU. It's a compromise of CPU plus integrated graphics. It's great if you're building a basic low budget system and don't want to have to spend money on a videocard. If all you do is cruise the web and stream HD video, an APU is all you need.

Gaming though, that's not what an APU is for. The CPU portion of it is slower than a gaming CPU, while the integrated graphics are too slow for gaming. So you wind up with the problem that even if you buy a videocard for gaming, the overall performance of your system is still limited by the APU.

You can verify this by observing CPU usage while you play Overwatch, it'll be at or near 100% most if not all the time.

edit: If the CPU is not being maxed out while you play, then...

make sure the monitor is hooked up to the card and not the motherboard

1050 ti is a good entry level card, it can play overwatch at ultra 1080p however very well

you have chosen a terrible cpu for gaming sadly, a6 is very weak

you really should have gone with a i3 7100 build

Thank you all for your wonderful responses! My CPU was hitting the 90%s and was running a little hot, so I have determined that it probably is the cpu's fault. Do any of you have suggestions for a good gaming CPU to replace the a6 with (preferably FM2+ socket so that I don't have to buy a new Mobo)

Thanks again! many responses in very little time!
