Hi,

My PC Freezes when gaming CS:GO, this error occured just 2 days ago, before that I was fine.

Now I am experiencing 150-240 fps instead of 290-300. I can feel spikes and it freezes after approx 5-15 min gaming.

I have tried:
Updated CPU and GPU - It's up to date.
Updated windows by its update option.
Cleaned PC from dust.

Specs!
Windows 10
Grafic: Nvidia Geforce GTX 970
Processor: Intel Core i7-4790K 4GHz
Ram: Corsair x2 4gb DDR4 Vengeance
Motherboard: Asus Z97-A
Chassi: Fractal Design Define R4
Hard drive: ST2000DM001 64MB 2TB
SSD: Samsung 850 Pro 128GB
Power Supply: Corsair GS600 600W

What can I do?
Thank you!!

So you are overclocking. First of all i wouldn't trust software for overclocking, it s always better to go through your bios. If you are using a stock intel cooler, 1.3 can be hot, i wouldn't go beyond 1.23-1.25 for cpu voltage. Either you buy an aftermarket cooler or you downclock. Drop your frequency and temps and check if the problem is solved. If you are using a stock intel cooler, make sure that the heatsnik is in full contact with the cpu, and that the four arms are locked into position

According to MSI afterburner my CPU cores reached MAX 90-94 temps TODAY overall.. That's really high
I've just added new thermal paste, 1 week ago or so..

How can I lower my CPU temps?

Is your cpu overclocked? And what cooler do you use?

Thank you very much!
I dropped my voltage to 1.250 V -- 42x
I have a feeling it will BSOD cuz not enough power, I guess i gotta drop more frequency, which means my fps will be at 100 in csgo?

I am planning on rebooting whole pc and try to OC thru bios only...
I use a stock cooler indeed, im surprised to see 94 degrees as max temp...

Your processor should handle the game easily even without overclocking so 100 fps maybe less. Do a slight overclock that is stable and does not overheat your cpu. What you are experiencing is most probably thermal throttling of cpu due to high temps. Once you get a better cooler you may overclock more out of your cpu with lower temps.

True.. Thank you so much!

I'd like to have 250+ without overclocking.. I just wanna run the game smoothly and no freezes..
You recommend me to stay at 1250V and lower Frequency if the temps are to high?

Frequency does not increase temps. Voltage does, therefore voltage is the one to be dropped if you are overheating. Be very careful with core voltage. Can't tell you the exact voltage as each processor is different and i am not an overclocker, but monitoring your temps while idle and under load should do it. Overclocked cpu can go high at 80 C or more when under load but try not to exceed these levels. Never disable Thermal Throttle in bios when overclocking, you can fry your processor. Good luck!

I am starting to understand more n more.. Thank you so much!
sorry for the questions...

How would I know how far I can push my frequency at the right voltage, to stay at 80 or lower temps..
Stress test 10 min and wait for bsod?

Thanks!

Np. Depending what you are overclocking there are suitable softwares. If you overclock cpu and ram, Prime95 and memtest86 are a must. Prime95 will stress both your cpu and a part of your ram at the same time, so it is a good software to simulate actual gaming conditions. Use RealTemp to record your actual core temperature. During a stress test it will soon depict your actual maximum temperature on your cores, depending on your settings. Therefore you will know what is the temp limit you are hitting. CPU-Z is another must have. There you can see real time core voltage and cpu power draw in watts.
BSODs mean you are not stable, ex too high frequency and low core voltage. Set a maximum voltage for 1.2-1.23 and record your temps over stress. 10 minutes are just too little, if you want to be totally sure for your stability i would suggest running over night. Many recommend 24h long. Do not be afraid, as long as you don't overdo it with voltages you should be good. And do not start overclocking by changing base clock frequency (BLCK), that could be frustrating and will cause instability issues. Playing with the multiplier and voltage is the most suggested procedure.

That's great to hear! I understand now completely I think.. Much appreciated, thank you so much!

I think I can't have my PC OC'd atm, I can't even have it as it is without reaching to high temps... as i am running on a standard intel cooler, which is literally the worst.. So I am planning to get a liquid one or air for a budget price which can get me 300 fps on CSGO that's all I need..

For anybody else still struggling with this, please try "fps_max 1000" in console. Some idiot on another board had suggested to me that fps_max 1 would "unbind" my FPS. Setting fps_max 1000 has eradicated the freezing / pauses for me thus far ....
