Hello there! I currently own a pc with an Intel i7-5550u cpu and FCBGA1168 socket and would really, really like to upgrade my hardware, since it's been retired and discontinued and kinda causes my pc to crash... Could I do that without having to buy a new laptop?

Solution

You cannot. The motherboard having a BGA mount means that the CPU is soldered to the motherboard. Even if it wasn't, given that's a 15W CPU, you may very well be limited to a 5650u anyway, depending on your model. In other words, the bad news is that an upgrade of this type involves a new laptop.
