Hello, I am trying to fix a laptop that has been broken for years but cant seem to get it to work. I am now trying to reset the bios and I haven't been able to succeed.http:// this is the link for my dropbox download but if you don't feel comfortable downloading this one, its here under bios
http://

So I have tried downloading it and putting it on a flash drive as is but I also tried to make a bootable usb using rufus and I still don't know how to get it to work. It does however (when I type DIR in the dos prompt) bring up a list of the contents of the drive (a bunch of autorun files) and when I try to run them, the system says bad file name. I have no idea if I'm doing this right so someone please help me! Much thanks for whoever is bold enough to step up to my challenge :)

So in this case when I want to run it, I would type the file name (1545_A14) just like I saw the name Steam for example?

By broken, I mean the machine not detecting any hard drive that is inserted into the slot. I don't think the contacts are actually broken but it could be a possibility. it takes longer post time also if that helps.

This is a picture of what it says, not sure if I can use this for photo sharing but ill try either way. I tried entering DIR and then typing the file name and I also tried it without the DIR and just entered the file name. It didn't work because it says Bad command or file name.

No my computer is unable to run any os at the moment, other than that I believe I did everything you said. I copied the program using rufus and everything. Is there anything I could be typing wrong in the dos part? I know it demands really specific things.

You copy the exe file by selecting it from the hdd / whatever you downloaded it to / the right mouse / copy

Rename that file so it's shorter. See if it makes a diff. In a command prompt type ren 1545_A14.EXE 1545.exe

Or try downloading the exe file again. It may have not finished downloading?

It just says no operating system found because its not a bootable usb. I will try downloading it again too. I may try an older version also just to see if it works better.

I don't really understand what you are telling me what to do... I have been using rufus but the last time I thought you ment to just copy and paste the raw file to the hard drive. while I have been listening and trying what you say, I have come up with a few of my own ways to solve this problem... I have installed hirens boot cd on my affected computer. I then transferred the bios application to the computer in which I could successfully load windows xp mini off a flash drive. then I tried to open the file and an error message came up. The ac adapter AND THE BATTERY need to be plugged in. I facepalmed at this moment because I realized whatever was affecting my computer took out almost everything with it. My computer no longer registers that the battery is connected. I was curious to see if this was the case, so I navigated to the setup page and sure enough, the battery wasn't operational.

*This has been sitting a while so I don't know if its just from not being used, but I think it would let me run the bios application even if the battery was low life.
* to further support my conclusion, the battery life indicator said communication error with the battery.

You put a flash drive in a usb port run rufus select freedos. It'll format it, and it'll create a bootable flash drive with freedos

When this has been done copy the bios update to it. Dont put it in a folder.

Then reboot the computer. Boot from the flash drive

Type 1545_A14.EXE it should flash the BIOS

The BIOS exe file doesnt run in Windows it runs in DOS

I did what you said and nothing happens :( I'm going to try different versions of the bios and do exactly what you said.

* Alright I did what you said and I finally got it to work today, the bad part is that the bios wont flash due to the battery malfunction. It still says communication error/ the battery needs to be replaced. I just bought a new battery and ill try flashing the bios then, it has been sitting a while so that may be what it needs. Thanks for your help so far and not dismissing my question!

I got my battery today and reset the BIOS. It didn't help anything. My hard drive is still not detected but my battery works now. I might try to download the Serial ATA drivers but for now it's not working. Do you have any suggestions? I've tried 2 different drives but neither of them work.

Alright, say I did that and they both work. What would be my next step? I know for a fact that one of the 2 hard drives work since the one I'm using in he pc was my old PS4 hdd. And I just need more space so that one became a spare.
