Old computer updraded cpu found it to be compatible. Used thermal grease placed in as marked. After install no video. Put old cpu back in no video.

Everything has power going to it and turns on. All fans and drives. No beeps, lights are on, blinking or changed colors.

Tried reseting cmos multiple times, tried unplugging all components, tried booting with 1 stick of ram instead of both, tried multiple monitors.

What should I try?

The computer worked fine before , all components. Just slow.

And as stated above tried putting old cpu back in and nothing as different.

Note I've switched from HDMI to vgaa and tried using motherboard display output instead of add in card.

After installing the motherboard replacement that came in, I got it working... after swapping ram sticks founding 1 was bad, or the computer wouldnt boot with it in. So I know the ram was bad, but not sure if the MB was bad too. or I just replaced the MB for no good reason like an idiot, and it was that stick of ram the whole time.

This may sound silly, but have you tried resetting the CMOS? And what CPU and motherboard are you using?

The motherboard is a G41T-DM upgraded bios to newest firmware A03.

It had a Celeron single core processor. Looked on toms hardware, and this site: http://www.cpu-upgrade.com/mb-ECS/G41T-M(V2.0).html and they said you could upgrade it to a Intel core quad. So I got a Intel Cpu Core 2 Quad Q9450

when I got the new cpu and installed it there was no display. After that I tried reseting the cmos by removing the battery. I tried different monitors and both the display in the mb and the graphics card installed by pci e. HDMI and VGA. Nothing. Tried placing the old cpu back in, and doing those things again still no display at all.

Today I went ahead and purchased a replacement motherboard. But I dont know how I would have messed anything up. Used arctic silver thermal grease. I was working on carpet but I touched the case routinely during the install.

The pc gets power I hear no beeps. Everything gets power including fans. But just absolutely no display at all no matter what I tried. Guess Il get an antistatis wrist strap as well and install new MB and try both cpus again...

I know getting a new system or a better mb would be for the best. and I know this may sound silly but its for me gf, its her old pc. And she is totally against any reformat. as she has sims 2 and old mods, the game the way she wants it, and for that reason will not go for a reformat at all. so that limits what I can upgrade, or getting a new system in general.

What were you using to cool the CPU? The Q9450 has a much higher TDP, so it may have overheated and damaged the motherboard if not adequately cooled. When replacing the board, try the Celeron first.

Artic Silver 5. With same heatsinc and fan. But the replacement motherboard I ordered has stock firmware. Il have to put the celeron in to upgrade the firmware, then try the the newer cpu.

Before you re-upgrade the CPU on the new motherboard, look for a cooler that can adequately cool a 95W CPU on LGA775. A Celeron stock cooler probably won't cool a 95W Core 2 Quad; it may overheat.
