Is this a good overclock for my ryzen 1700x i overclocked it to 3.8 ghz..running at 1.35 and my hyperx fury ddr4 2400 at stock. Temps running at 55c idle of course minus 20 degress off set...should i try to run it at 4.0 ghz...would there be any benefit or just leave it at 3.8 ghz...i running a fuma cooler with triple fan. I dont know how to mess with the settings..i have a asrock b350 k gaming. I love my new setup but i dont want to run voltages more the 1.35

if you're happy with it leave it where it is, an extra 200mhz to get it too 4ghz isn't going to make any noticeable difference in everyday tasks, and the extra heat and voltage required to get it there is just going to worry you, AMD themselves only recommend 1.35v max for 24/7 use, you should never really add anything over +0.250v above stock voltage to any cpu for 24/7 use.

my 1700 is doing 3.9ghz at 1.36v, it will do 4ghz, but again, not worth it for all the extra voltage I have to bang through it.

every CPU is slightly different, but they are all about 1.1v

Kind of wierd because on the oc tweaker had the vcore at 1.35 and i left it at that....i wondering if i can go down to 1.3 volts instead so i keep the cpu cooler

no harm in trying it, give it a test, if it crashes then put the voltage back up again.

Underclock that ryzen to 3.4ghz then you will set the max Over clock to 4.0ghz.
Less higher clock means a cooler chip while doing regular tasks or just idoling by.
Yes I don't own a ryzen "citatation for any stupid people wanting to bicker"
However being a long time amd user and understanding the oc process for those chips.
Its a good idea not to have them running too high and too hot.

I ran it at 1.30 and it passed the cenebench test. Temps are actually the same as they where at 1.35 running 54c at idle. And go up to 68c i know x series are off by 20 degrees. I may try to lower v core again

don't just use cinebench, you'll want to test with other things too, like real bench etc, also, if you download the latest trial of AIDA64 extreme beta, they have fixed the offset in the temp monitoring: https://www.aida64.com/downloads/ODlhYmU3NWE=

to test for stability

I run Prime95 small FFTs overnight about 16hours
realbench overnight 8 hours
100 passes of IBT standard
50 passes of IBT maxed out
AIDA64 8 or 9 hours overnight.

stable enough to run the shuttle.

I am currently using my Ryzen 1700X @ 3.800Ghz @ 1.317V ( 3 hours of prime95 confirmed its rock stability )
Ocing over that just makes it so much power thirsty and too much heat.
This is my chip's sweet spot i think.
My chip can reach upto 3.95Ghz at 1.40V but very unstable. It just fails within 7 to 10 minutes of prime95. I have a wild feeling LLC is not upto the mark.

Hi Jonathan
I just set my advanced setting to 'performance' and the mobo set itself to just under 3.8GHz. Result. Easy peasy.
