So I need another system that can play Ark:Survival. I can either 1) build a new system with better tech parts for myself, or 2) build a cheap barebones system that can get the job done on Ark for someone else.
I have a homebrew system now:
FX-6300 @ 4.4 GHz
8 GB DDR3 @ 800MHz (Northbridge @ 2400)
MSI GeForce 970 4 GB mem
M5A99FX Pro 2.0 Mobo
I use a LED 1080p TV as a monitor, not 4k.
and a very nice smelling Glade plugin nearby, but that's not the point
Is it worth dropping the paycheck on a new rig? I try to walk the line on quality vs value when building new rigs, so I'm wondering if something in that 80% margin would be that much of an upgrade in real-world terms compared to my current system. I'm sure in theorycraft, but in actual "playing video games to exclude Crisis 3 on Ultra," "checking email," and "typing up papers and spreadsheets for class."
I'm not a parts snob. I don't need bleeding-edge tech for that extra 2 FPS on Crisis 3 on Ultra High, nor do I need DDR4 Ram because it has a higher number than DDR3. I need it to play ARK: Survival Evolved on High settings with ~50 - 60 FPS.
The important things for a schoolwork + games user such as myself is CPU clock speed and vid card. More cores are cool, but not for most games. I don't do video editing.
I'm open to most brands, I'm not loyal to NVidia or AMD or Intel. I find that AMD is cheaper for the raw GHz and cores, while Intel has better buses to use what it has (some of the benchmark tests I've seen are obviously chosen to skew the results one way or another).
