I'm worried that I might brick my motherboard and I wanted to ask if it the motherboard has some kind of BIOS backup.
My motherboard is he MSI X370 Sli Plus

Some motherboards do have that feature. I, however, do not see anything regarding a 'dual-bios' or 'backup-bios' in the specifications of your particular motherboard. Those kind of features are usually well-advertised, too. You should assume it has no kind of backup if it isn't specified.

Cheers!

I think ASUS has a backup Bios thing.

OK thanks, so if you were to flash the wrong bios even today with current tech motherboards (in the lower cost range) it would be bricked? Is there still no usb recovery?

Somtimes manufactures can be slightly unclear saying things like we recommend you only flash with x bios unless you have x cpu. But not really saying you will brick it for good.

Do you know what is the lowest cost gaming/performance type am4 board that has a backup feature?

The motherboard would - probably - check whether it's actually a compatible BIOS before flashing. No guarantee though, not all motherboards are created equal. If it does flash an incompatible BIOS then the motherboard would indeed be bricked unless a backup BIOS is available.

As for a motherboard that does support that functionality, most modern Gigabyte motherboards have a dual-bios, even the low-end ones. I suggest you check them out. Not sure about other brands, but it should be easy enough to find.

OK thanks, that feature sounds good but it costs a lot more.

If you get a non recovery motherboard but post your system specs on tomshardware and the bios version you are thinking of flashing the bios to can you get a pretty good idea that you are not doing something stupid?

As long as you make sure you download the correct version from the manufacturer's website and follow their instructions there's not a lot that could go wrong. But yeah, you can always ask here if you're not sure you're doing it properly.

Cheers!
