Hi there!

I would like to upgrade my PC for better gaming performance and I'm thinking of buying a Gigabyte GeForce GTX 1070 WINDFORCE OC and a new 144hz monitor to put into this system:

  • 8 GB Corsair Vengeance - DDR3
    Intel Core i5 4670K - 3.4 GHz
    Asus Z87-PLUS - Motherboard
    Cooler Master ATX12V 2.31 650 Watt
Now, I'm wondering is the intel core i5 is going to bottleneck the performance of a 1070? Also I read somewhere here that a CPU could hamper the benefit from a 144hz panel? Would that be an issue here? I'm also thinking I should probably upgrade the RAM to 16GB, is that correct?

Solution
Your i5 4670k won't bottleneck anything less than a GTX 1080 TI. I haven't heard how CPU could be a disadvantage to a 144Hz panel. 8GB ram is a minimum, but 16GB is encourage now for newer games and more multi tasking potential. 16GB is by no means a must, buts its useful to have if you can afford it.
