Does Buying a New Cpu Cooler Will Cool down my Cpu Temps

I am using a Amd Stock Cooler.Does buying a new one Can help to cool down my Cpu temp:??:??:

Cpu: AMD anthlon 64 x2 Dual Core Processor 5000+ 2.61 Ghz
Cpu temps while idle 53-60 while loaded or playing games 70-90

Playing intensive games causes my pc to shut by it self and also try to clean my cpu cooler and replacing a new thermal paste but i had no chance and i still having high temps what should i do?? Does buying a new Cpu cooler would really help to solve my problem ??

I have never found evidence that expensive thermal pastes do any better for cooling than generic ones. But upgrading from the stock cooler definitely will be better for cooling.
