He's talking about the 1500x, a CPU that hasn't even been benchmarked by any legitimate sites yet. Wait a couple days for the reviews to come out before making any conclusions.
And again, we're comparing it to a 4 core, 4 thread i5-7500 here, not a much higher-clock, 4 core, 8 thread i7-7700 or something. The 4 core, 8 thread 1500x might not offer quite the same performance as the i7 in existing games, but it will likely have no problem matching or potentially beating the performance of the i5-7500 in games. Plus, unlike the 7500, the 1500x is unlocked to allow for overclocking. And it should cost a bit less at launch. So no, unless the reviews end up indicating otherwise, I would say the opposite will likely be true, and the Ryzen 1500x will probably be better for gaming than its i5 competition. Again, wait a couple days for the product to launch and reviews to come out first though.
