Undetectable HDD problem

heloo frds
i hve weird problem of my sony external hard disk.problem is that when i try 2 coneect with my laptop only i can see is just drive H. cant open and cant see any details.but when i connect in my samsung Tv its works fine. i m tried in different laptops and also windows 10.but no response in laptop or windows 7..
any suggestion ?

ralston18 i dont think problem is in cable because its working fine in tv.and power is getting from laptop .and i have also tried in different pc and laptop but it cant working on other device.

Verify: Does the external HDD have its own power supply? I would expect that it does but do need to confirm that. Maybe the external power (if there is one) has failed in some manner.

That said:

The external HDD may be getting its power from the laptop but the laptop's USB port may not be able to provide enough power.

SSD's will work as they do not require as much power. Your HDD may work on the TV because the TV's port is able to provide enough power.

What may be needed is a powered USB hub:

HDD ----- USB cable --------->[USB ports]Powered USB Hub ----USB cable ------>[USB port]Laptop.

Where the Powered USB Hub has its own power supply via a wall outlet.

What model is your Sony External Hard drive?
