Xbox Scorpio better than 1300$ gaming pc?

Solution
One thing is to run <mod edit> at in 4K, another is to actually have good visuals AND run it at 4K.

All these stories how Scorpio will have smooth 4K are nothing more but <mod edit> - the specs simply can not support it - what will most likely happen is a lot of quality trade offs going on to achieve this, that is even if it will be an actual thing and not just some PR stunt to awe amateurs to begin with.

One thing that is important is that the Scorpio will most likely not be running games with maximum settings. We have seen the PS4 Pro (which is a bit weaker) not only fail to render at native 4k, but also with poor performance and reduced settings.

The scorpio spec is very close to an RX 480. And I can get a select few games to run at 4k60 with max settings if I disable all Anti Aliasing.

You also have to consider the fact that the Scorpio CPU is basically a more efficient and overclocked Xbone CPU. An Overclocked 7600K will most likely dust it.

While the Scorpio is impressive, I believe a 7600K and a 1070 will produce a better experience at 4k. I'm predicting that the Scorpio will run hot and loud, as well as taking tradeoffs in certain graphical elements (such as GoW4 running particles at 30Hz).

Interesting, I'm also planning to overclock my cpu and gpu slightly, so basically I dont have to worry about the Scorpio beating my build? Also do you have any good 1440p monitor suggestions

Scorpio will be great for consoles Im sure. I mainly game on my PC, but do have an XBone for times on the couch. I wouldn't worry about Scorpio beating a PC in that price range. As for the monitor, do you need 60hz, 144hz, Gsync, etc? There are a ton of good ones out there.

That's not something I can answer. There are so many personal variables. Will a singular purposed device be better than a PC? Do I want to invest in a product that can grow with my developing needs or will this console meet my needs for years to come? Will the supported game list be as varied on Scorpio as it is on a PC? When my Scorpio has "the red ring of death" or has another issue in or out of warranty what will I do?

Being a BIASED PC user I will field the warranty question. I purchased(hypothetically speaking) the 850W G3 for my custom built rig a few years back. Let's make it 6 years ago even though that particular model wasn't made yet. I had an issue that resulted in only the fans in my PC spinning. After much troubleshooting I figured out it was the PSU. I contact EVGA and submit and receive an RMA. Each and every part is user "friendly" and is not a single product that isn't so user friendly.

It's up to you and what your answers to those(and probably more than a few other) questions are that will answer your question here. You sound like a console gamer that is on the fence looking to either side for some advice. Will a PC really be better for me? Heck, I don't know....

Unless it is a poor PC port (or there are some console only tradeoffs), I expect even my rig to beat out the Scorpio. That CPU is just too weak. And I'm banking on thermal throttling as well.

Solution
1) PC runs other programs
2) PC can do keyboard/mouse style games. Heck, 4K is ideal for a lot of these RTS games like Starcraft 2, Warhammer 40K, CIV5

3) on PC I'd run at 2560x1440 anyway unless the game can handle 4K on high or near highest settings. 4K often doesn't look much better than 2560x1440 anyway.
4) Scorpio isn't even out yet so we can only take their word for it so far. It definitely won't be every game.

5) Scorpio's CPU probably can't handle a lot of games at 60FPS. Especially games already made for XBOX ONE. Yes, Scorpio supposedly has a hardware, x86 thingy to automate draw calls but we have NO solid evidence on how that can improve the FPS. I highly doubt it's as significant as they'd like to believe (also probably has to be something the game developer codes specifically for so they'd have to recode older games.

Since jumping 30FPS to 60FPS is hard, AND the fact that they still have to run games on the XBOX ONE I don't think 60FPS is going to be as common as many think.

If you understand how to PROGRAM then you can appreciate that it's relatively EASY to code a game to run 4K at 60FPS if ONLY working on the Scorpio. How does that work when you also do the base XBOX ONE? If you already use the XBOX ONE CPU about 100% then you've only got the overclock amount left for the 4K Scorpio. You are going to USE some of those cycles for HDR. Some for the increased draw calls of 4K resolution.

That's going to pretty much eat up all the CPU cycles, so how much can that x86 hardware thing help? Unless it can boost FPS by 200% it can't get us from 30FPS to 60FPS. Now, I'm obviously OVERSIMPLIFYING but unless a company spends a lot of resources re-tweaking the code 60FPS will be difficult.

So we just don't know do we?

6) PC has a lot more flexibility in how you adjust the settings (though that means you should learn how to TWEAK games optimally as well... i.e. how does Adaptive VSYNC work?)

7) GSYNC is awesome. Too expensive for most right now, but later you could add a GSYNC monitor if you want and really take advantage of things.

8) Virtual Reality - PC is really where it's at. Prices are dropping. Will Scorpio get VR support? When? How many games by say 2018?

9) COST OF GAMES - they are cheaper on PC. Heck, I shopped around and just got a game for $10 (CDN) that was $60 on the XBOX ONE and I couldn't get it cheaper. Found Shadows of Mordor complete for $10 too.

10) NETWORK - PC doesn't have the same monthly fee. Yes, there are "free" games and benefits on the console so it's hard to compare but if we ignore that then the ($60?) per year adds up over five years.

Let's say that's $300 and also say you save $600 over five years for games (it's easier than you might think). That's $900 right there. But...

If your funds are tight, AND you don't buy many games and just want to kick back on the couch and play then SCORPIO might be ideal for you. Desktop PC really isn't ideal for the living room area. That's something STEAMOS has tried (and so far failed) to do because you want it to be SIMPLE.

SCORPIO has other pros like easy Netflix, recording of video etc. Sure you can do these on PC but console tends to simplify this. You also tend to have far less issues. It's not uncommon to have some Windows 10 issue that is hard to fix.

SUMMARY:
It's not a simple choice. You really have to weigh all the pros and cons.

I have the luxury of buying both. I have a GTX1080 desktop PC and the Scorpio will be for the kids in the living room (mainly so they stop bugging me). I am excited to try the Scorpio and compare though.

Also you ideally want a 4K HDTV with proper HDR support, AND you need to investigate the INPUT LATENCY of the HDTV as some aren't ideal for gaming. Some can be improved by disabling settings (that process video) but ideally you get when where there is a "GAMING" mode that just disables all that stuff.

I still don't understand, if the Scorpio can run 4K 60fps then why not buy that instead of a 1300$ pc build instead with a gtx 1070 that can only run 4K at like 24 fps, and a 75hz one will do, and I don't care much for g sync

1. That's a marketing lie. The Scorpio won't be running any games at 4k 60fps.
2. The 1070 can do way more than run 4k at 24fps, who ever told you that is lying.

The Scorpio will be the first console to have near gaming PC performance. If you want that route you will never regret it and you will enjoy it.

But keep in mind that the Scorpio will be released at the end of the year , and by that time The PC performance will jump again with the next Gen GPU...

so if you want to wait , dont buy the PC now at all and buy it later on when next Gen GPU is released.

so if you want to compare with the Scorpio , compare at its release date not today .

The scorpio will not give you 60 fps 4K gaming , it will give you 30fps on 4k nothing more and the detail setting will be lower than PC setting for sure .

but if you ask me ? it is really cheap for what it can do and it is worth it if you want to save money and you will enjoy gaming on it.

Gaming on Consoles will not slow down because they are made to run on a single hardware and is optimized to do that. unlike the PC , there are more software layers .. that is the same game on xbox will run faster than on PC with the same hardware for the better optimization and direct hardware access .

Hmmmm, so you think i should wait till next gen GPU comes out? Will it be more expensive with the same performance? Less expensive with better performance?

Yes, I think I'll go towards the PC path, i always hated how restricted consoles where. Instead of having to buy a whole new pc every couple years i could just upgrade parts individually. Also, here is my pc build, in what order would i have to upgrade things? Any tips or modification to my soon to be build? Any tips when actually building?

Optical drive :
Asus 24x DVD-RW Serial-ATA Internal OEM Optical Drive DRW-24B1ST (Black)

Ram : Corsair Vengeance LPX 16GB (2x8GB) DDR4 DRAM 3000MHz C15 Desktop Memory Kit - Black

Case : Fractal Design Define R4 Cases, Black Pearl

What I am saying is, If you want to compare the Scorpio , compare it at release time with desktop PC.

as I can see you are planning on getting a FHD monitor .. if you intend to play on FHD then the Scorpio is better ...

There is no point in paying that much and playing on FHD resolution ...

you are shooting yourself in the foot lol...

Bottom Line : If you want to Game on FHD resolution , then the Scorpio is 100% the better choice. it will give you max detail and 60 fps on FHD ... no need to pay more..

If you want PC , you should look at least at 4K TV gaming , or 1440P monitors...

IMO if you want FHD wait for the scorpio , the PC is not worth the money for FHD with Scorpio around ... IMO when the Scorpio will be released , it will kill the FHD Gaming PC forever ... Gaming PCs will be for higher resolution only after the scorpio release .

My fellow pc enthusiast, the man just want to game at 4k at 60fps and he don't want other features that a pc provides. All he wants is a smooth gameplay experience at his 4k screen just to get entertained. So he could save his 900$ and donate it to cancer patients and can be happy with Scorpio. Ya I know that the graphics quality will be less but money saved will be gienormous. So it's totally up to him whether he spents 1300$ and get 30 fps at ultra settings or pay 450$ and get 30 fps at high settings. And I personally think that after Scorpio amd and nvidia will surely release much more cheaper 4k GPU s. So he could also wait if he have the patience.
