I am looking at these two motherboards for my first build and the CPU is either going to be a intel 7700k or the 6700k. But is there a real difference.

The first is:

ASRock Z270 Pro4 LGA 1151 Intel Z270 HDMI SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX Motherboards - Intel

and the second is the:

ASRock Z270 KILLER SLI/AC LGA 1151 Intel Z270 HDMI SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX Motherboards - Intel

I am using it for some light game and 3d modeling. I am building this computer also for better understanding since I am taking the A+ cert test very soon and well you can read about how a computer works but until you build it you really don't know.

Thanks in advance.

If you had to have SLI the Killer would be my choice. For your needs the Pro4 will most certainly fit the bill. I split my screen and was looking at the specs which are very very similar. The Killer came out on top but not by that much. I then scrolled up and looked at the prices. I was slightly shocked by the difference.

I would opt for the 6700K. If the minor performance boost is worth the extra clams then go for the 7700K. Do some research about how hot they get. I'd strongly consider using jet.com is you are in the US. Using their spring15 promo code will knock 15% off your order. BUT There is a limit on the percentage they will take off. Fortunately that promo code is valid for your first three orders. I broke up some recent purchased for exactly that reason. I would have wasted money if I ordered everything in one go. Not saying to put all your eggs in one basket. Only saying they are a dependable retailer with a very nice promo going on.

I am thinking the Pro4 as well I have a $20 gift card when I bought my case. I take the 7700k and 6700k is the CPU you are recommending. I am building with not in mind not buying everything at one time. I am buying the MoBo and CPU and cpu fan and cpu goo first then the ram and graphics card, then the starage and optical drives then the OS and Power supply and extra fans.
