Is something wrong with my motherboard?

I'm having an issue with booting. Long story short, roughly 4 out 5 boots, the screen just goes to black. Nothing appears, No POST, no BIOS, Nothing. Sometimes my system just shutdowns after like, 20 seconds. Other times I'll have to shut it down by holding the power button. Sometimes it's off instantly from clicking, others are the standard 5 second hold.

I check the POST code display and it always says "bd" but I can't find what that code translates to, it's not in the manual. I did a search an apparently it's a broad answer that could be a lot of things. I've forgotten what it was I'm trying to find again now.

It's an Asus X99-S, I've always had small problems with it ("Overclocking failed" Post message when no overclocking).

It seems to never remember my preferred boot device. I've selected my boot drive in BIOS multiple times, disabled booting from the other, reset to default and tried again. I follow the exact same path I've done for the last 5+ years and it just keeps forgetting. It's only 2 years old so i doubt the battery is dying. Back to booting, Every single time, when It manages to boot, the routine is always, boot to POST, Enter BIOS from POST, select boot override and then it boots into windows, but like I mentioned, the majority of the time, it doesn't even seem to make it to POST. As a result of this, it takes me upwards of 40-50 minutes just to boot my PC.

I've had general slowness and failures within Windows, so I suspected my HDD could be on the way out, but the fact this doesn't even make it to POST leaves me to believe the problem is from the Motherboard instead.

Anyone have any suggestions as to what this could be and what could fix it?
Sorry for the bleak information, I don't really know what else to say here but any questions I'll respond ASAP. Thanks!

I would say it's one of three things. Either your PSU is dead/dying, your CMOS battery is dead/dying, or your motherboard is dead/dying. I would start with the cheapest solution first and buy a new cell battery and see if it fixes it. If not, try out buddy's PSU or take it to repair shop and ask for them to test it with one of their known working PSU's. If that fails, then you have a fried motherboard. Is the board still under warranty by Asus?

That's a good point, I completely forgot about the PSU's age, it's quite old now and even then, I bought it factory refurbished.
That's long overdue for an upgrade anyway so I'll try that first and see if the problem still persists. In the meantime I'll get a new battery anyway just to see because that's cheap. I'll hold off going to local repair shops as much as I can, I know for a fact both, considering I worked in one of them will charge a fortune just to test it "labour fee's"then claim it's anything they can charge a fortune for.

That being said, thank you for the advice! All taken into consideration with how the order and which I'll try things!
