which one should i go for for gaming? a rx480 crossfire with a rizen 5 1600x or a i5 7600k with a gtx1070 ? i bougth a 144hz monitor and my objective is to play games like overwatch maxed out at 144+ fps steady and games like witcher 3 maxed out at more than 60 fps average

Solution
Single GPU is better because it's more reliable, and also will require less power and generate less heat than 2 GPUs.
The crossfired performance of 2 rx480s would be about equal to a 1070, but have a higher chance of problems occurring due to crossfire.

Overwatch at 144FPS is a cakewalk for a 1070, Witcher 3 Maxed (or near, optimized settings) should be easy to achieve 60fps.

A single card is always a better option as some games do not scale very well with a second card. Also a single 1070 will delver the performance you are looking for in both of those games.

The 144hz monitor you bought, was it FreeSync/AdaptiveSync or G-Sync? Or neither? And to add to what the other guys are saying, one more powerful card is almost always better than the weaker cards in crossfire/SLI. I would go as far as to say more than half of all titles do not even support crossfire, and thus you'd be using one of the weaker cards most of the time anyway.

I think everyone assumed 1080p resolution for those comments. If he wanted higher resolutions he would need more powerful components to maintain high frame rates.

For pure gaming the i5 7600k and GTX 1070 should be the better platform.
