Before I get started I must state that I am unable to post any more evidence of what happened so I will try to explain it fully. I will try to answer any questions.

I originally had a GTX 970, the card died on me. When I took it to my local PC shop he discovered that there was a short on the GPU so it was time to buy a new graphics card.

I then proceeded to buy a RX-480 (8gb) and when it arrived all seemed well with the GPU. I plugged it in, did everything needed to support the card like installing drivers from the website and not the disk, removing old nvidia drivers using DDU etc. The card worked perfectly out of games but when i decided to play games with it, after about 5 seconds usually the whole screen would turn into a solid colour (the colour depended on the displayed image at the time). I would have to hold the power button down to turn the PC (this is not a bluescreen). I searched around for solutions but had no luck with it.
I returned the graphics card and got a replacement to be sure that it wasn't just a faulty card. However this card did the same thing. I took my PC back in to the PC shop to see if they could find the issue. I am certain that it inst anything related to my PSU as they had a PSU powering just the GPU and the same issue occurred. Im not too sure whether they plugged the GPU into their own systems though.

After this happened I returned the replacement aswell and the vendor i bought it from said they tested it and found no issues when using it on their test bench. I am using an R9 270x until i can get this fixed and this works fine which makes me believe that the PCI-E slot is fine.

What could be causing this issue. The issues continued when using a different PSU and other GPUs appear to work with my motherboard. Did i just get really unlucky and get 2 products that have identical issues? I need to establish what the issue is before i go ahead and buy another expensive GPU.

This is the only thing i have that shows what happened, the screen froze white in this example however this changed depending on the game played.
