Motherboard: Asus Maximus V Formula
PSU: Silverstone SST-ST1000 (1000w)

The entire system was running fine until a power outage occurred. I could not turn the PC back on. After some monkeying around i concluded the PSU died. I obtained a replacement working EVGA 750 G2. The wattage on this replacement is more than sufficient for my needs.

I plugged everything back in with the replacement PSU but STILL the same problem. With the PSU in place and ON but with the system still powered off there are LED lights around the motherboard -- START, RESET, GO, and the Republic of Gamers (this is fading on and off). There are no Q-LED lights on at this time. When i go to power on the system i can hear the click of the PSU but nothing else -- no fans, no drive activities. The system appears dead. No Q-LED lights, no Speaker beeps.

I've already tried pressing the reset CMOS button, the Start, Reset, and Go button without any luck. I made sure the EPS/EATX 12v (8-pin or 4-pin) is attached but still the same problem. I disconnected all the drives, removed the video card so that it was just the PSU + motherboard connection -- same problem.

BUT oddly enough.... when i replaced the EVGA 750 G2 with a generic old 300W psu (only the 24-pin connection but no EATX 12v connection since it has none) and go to power on the system the case fans all start up, including the CPU fan!! I can see the Q-LED "CPU_LED" light is on. However, after 2 secs or so the system auto powers down but then cycles back up again. Maybe this is due to no EATX 12V connection?

What is going on here? I know the EVGA 750 G2 psu works fine so why cant it power up my system whatsoever. Is there something faulty with my mobo? But why does the FSP Group Inc FSP300-60THA (300w ) PSU get farther into the power on sequence?

Thanks for any troubleshooting steps.

UPDATE:

* I've also tried reshuffling the ram stick positions, removing 2 of the 4, then installing just 1 stick only, then removing all ram sticks in hopes of hearing a BIOS beep. Nothing.

* I've tried the EVGA 750 G2 without attaching the EATX 12v (to match the 300W psu approach) but the same non-reaction of the EVGA happened as before -- it did not replicate the 300W psu.

For the record i cant recall ever hearing a BIOS BEEP when the system was working fine. So im not sure if such a thing could be turned off in the BIOS. The speaker cable is connected though. I did press the clear cmos button and temporarily pulled the cr2032 battery.

UPDATE:

The problem apparently was with the cables. It seems one is not allowed to intermix cabling between the Silverstone PSU and the EVGA PSU. I was using all the original cabling from my previous 1000w PSU with the newer EVGA. This caused the problem. The moment i swapped out the cables for the EVGA provided ones the system started working. WTF?!

So the lesson here is make sure to use the provided cables by the PSU manufacturer because apparently ATX standards and copper wiring are different between manufacturers i suppose.
