My old 1155 atx size motherboard broke and I was looking at some replacements, would I fit a an Asus Strix gtx970 in an matx motherboard?

For example.
Asus H61M-K
or
Gigabyte GA-H61MA-D2V

Would it fit in a normal atx case?

I would also be going from 16gb of ram to 8gb (though with a third mismatched 8gb module to just the 2x4gb matched sticks, would the performance be ok with 8gb total for modern gaming) with an i5 2500?

Might have to activate swap on ssd again.

Maybe it's no good to downgrade though.

New Ryzen system would cost something like $450 with 1400 cpu though.
Or I could get a new matx mb for the i5 2500 for $100 and have to downgrade to 8gb or ram.
Is it worth upgrading an i5 2500 to Ryzen 1400?
