Hello, I just bought a RX 460 OC from MSI to add to a prebuilt (I've never built my own PC) I bought but it seems I can't get it to work.
My specs:
CPU: A8-6600k with HD8570D
MOBO: Gigabyte GA-F2A78M-DS2
RAM: 8GB
PSU: Integrator 500W 80+ Bronze by Aerocool

I'm sorry for the long post in advance, I'm so close to bursting into tears not knowing what to do.

Here is the story. I first installed it and then booted up my PC on a monitor using a VGA to HDMI converter. The monitor said no signal. I thought about it and thought it was the converter that was just not working so I went and got one of my small TV monitors with HDMI and tried again connecting it straight to the GPU. No luck, the monitor did't recognize that there was a signal coming through the HDMI. At this point I google this problem and find that it probably has to do with my BIOS not being updated. Okay, I update the BIOS of my Gigabyte GA-F2A78M-DS2 to the current version and try again. Nope. Then, I remember that last time I installed an HD5450 without needing to disable the integrated graphics but this time I might need to. I try and disable it. Put the GPU back again.... nope. Now I had my integrated graphics disabled and the GPU. Since I don't know anything about PCs I start to panic and I google it again and learn how to clear the CMOS to restart the BIOS.

I take it out, and I'm back to where I started. Out of frustration I try and install the RX 460 Drivers before putting in the GPU just to see if it worked and that didn't work out either. Now when I boot up my PC it starts in 800x600 res. I got no idea what happened or if the GPU is just not working. I was so happy when it came and now that it doesn't work it is just killing me emotionally. If you could help I would really appreciate it.

Solution
the graphics problems are only in windows correct? it sounds like you need to un-install the old drivers and install new ones. I know you've installed the new ones but make sure the old ones are gone.

Okay so I got my PC and brought it downstairs to my big flat TV screen with HDMI and I plugged it there. I booted up and.... it worked! It got stuck on the Windows Login thing but I rebooted it and disabled the integrated graphics and rebooted again. Now I'm in the desktop but it still is 800x600 which I think thanks to you the uninstalling the old drivers should do the work. As for why it worked in the TV screen my only conclusion is that either the VGA converter is not useful and that the small TV monitor just doesn't work with the HDMI cable idk or that I need a new monitor with HDMI and no VGA. Do you think this is a possibility?

well there's a big thing about active adapters and passive, all in all it's not likely that a passive hdmi to VGA is going to work well, you would be better off using a DVI or VGA adapter. As to why your monitor didn't work and your tv did? I'm going to guess refresh rates?

It works fine now on the TV. I'm guessing it was just that VGA is just too old. I uninstalled the old drivers and downloaded the new one and it seems to work well. I guess I'll have to buy an HDMI monitor if I want to use it on my desk. For now I'll just do some living room gaming :p. Thanks for the help
