Is it worth it to upgrade from a 6600k to a Ryzen Chip or an i7?

I just built my first build in January and my build is mini itx, so ryzen chips aren't even out for my platform yet. Currently I don't do a TON of video editing or streaming, but i multi-task alot (Firefox + videos + gaming + word processing + music software on all at the same time for example). i feel like a huge idiot for not being able to wait to built my computer.

I'll probably be making the switch towards the end of Summer, but considering my circumstances would you recommend an i7 upgrade (6700k or 7700k) or a Ryzen upgrade?

Unless you're experiencing 100% CPU utilization right now (particularly to the point your PC is unresponsive or really slow) an upgrade to an i7 or Ryzen is probably more of a sideways movement than a major improvement. I wouldn't recommend the "upgrade" as it would be money wasted IMHO.

an i7 will give you more consistent fps even when you are gpu bound, so an upgrade isnt a bad idea period. and if you plan to run a gpu more powerful than a 1060/480 an i5 will bottleneck it, especially at 1080p.

as for ryzen vs i7, since you already have an 1151 board, go for an i7. though make sure you can fit a decent cooler in your itx case.
