Confused on AMD processors

Ok, so I have had a look at buying an amd ryzen 1800x cpu, but, I stumbled across this make:
amd FX 9590
http://products.amd.com/en-us/search/CPU/AMD-FX-Series/AMD-FX-8-Core-Black-Edition/FX-9590/98

It seems much better than the ryzen except for the high TDP (therefore more heat generation). I don't know much about AMD because usually I buy pre-built PCs with Intel CPUs yet the specs for this look almost too good to be true with a >15mb cache, 4.7Ghz base clock speed, and 8 cores means that it seems to surpass intels latest i7-7700k.

Please tell me more about this and tell me what I am missing because it makes no sense - ryzen is the newer cpu that is said to bring amd back as competition yet this older FX CPU seems better????

Help please!!

The FX-9590 is literally one of the worst CPUs ever made. Its unstable, requires a ton of power, and only certain motherboards work with it. While clock-speed is higher that is a meaningless number, you cannot compare two different brands or series of processor based on clock speed. The instructions per clock cycle of that processor is much lower than Ryzen, and the architecture does not lend itself to handle single core tasks efficiently.

For gaming the i7-7700k still wins. However if you're gonna be streaming as well, or doing a lot of multithreaded tasks the Ryzen 7 is the way to go.

The 6850k is not worth it anymore.

Thanks, I will ignore the amd FX chips and intel enthusiast chips.

1) Will the ryzen 7 affect gaming much compared to i7-7700k?
2) Does anyone know when asus will release a motherboard with an inbuilt wifi chip?

Will still crush any current game no problem. You'd likely not notice the difference, and in the end it multitasks better.

Check my gaming rig in my signature I just built one off an R7 1800X

As for built in Wifi, no idea, but just get a $15 Wifi card, the boards have plenty of slots.

ryzen 7 is pretty much equal in some games and about 5-15% slower in others but still it will be enough for a long time and after this long time games will most likely be optimized for utilizing those cores so that the ryzen will come out ahead in the end i would also consider getting the ryzen 5 1600 it is a better bang for the buck and certainly enough for multitasking as long as you dont do workstation stuff you will be fine for gaming its equal to the 1700.
