GPU Boost vs Base clock

I recently got a new 1080ti, I'm pretty unfamiliar with some of the terminology for one being the core clock. The core clock while under load using afterburner is usually around 1700-1750 (stock settings), the specification on the Nvidia site state say 1582 MHz for the boost clock.

What is the difference vs Base and Boost clock and is it something I have control over, also whats with the variance in the clock speed versus my card and whats listed on the site. I appreciate any info I'm trying to learn all I can about this stuff.

The base and core clock are used interchangeably and for a 1080 TI FE the base clock is 1480. The advertised boost clock is 1582 the GPU boost clock will go much higher that that and is adjusted base on temperature, voltage limit, and load. The 1700 - 1750 you are seeing is what you boost clock stabilizes at once you are under load and the temperatures build up.

You can use Afterburner to increase you power limit and base clock which will cause you boost clock to increase but you will still have to fight with temperatures or they will bring the boost clock back down. You can create a custom fan profile to help but only the FE cards you run the fan pretty high (loud) to keep the heat down and the boost clock up. The aftermarket air...

The boost clock advertised on the box is a guaranteed boost out of the box. This means you are going to get AT LEAST 1582MHz from the boost on the core clock. Most of the time, cards will boost beyond the stated boost clock and it is dependent on thermals and other factors. What you're seeing is not abnormal and is relatively common. The fact that you're getting about 120 extra MHz without any tweaking is a good thing.
