Motherboard colour is better than GPU!?

Hello,
I bought a decent midrange GPU but the colour on it was dire. As such, I'm back to using the HDMI port on the motherboard for my monitor. Just wondering, is the GPU now completely inert or is it doing something to aid my computer without the HDMI use?

First, when you install a new videocard it's a good idea to calibrate the monitor to the card. Don't give up on color, brightness, etc until after you calibrate it.

Also to answer your question, no the card is not helping now. It's inert.
