Hey all,
I am starting my first PC build and had a few questions for the community.

First I'll give some context.

My computer right now ACER ATC 710 desktop
CPU: intel i7 6700
RAM: 16 GB DDR3
HDD: 2TB
GPU: some bs
PSU: 300w I believe
Motherboard: unsure but it has 1 PCI express x16 and 1 PCI express x1 according to website.

What I want from my computer.

I want to upgrade my computer for better performance for music production, media editing, and gaming. Mostly for music and media editing but still want dope graphics when I do game.
So, I bought a NZXT Phantom 410 case mid tower for everything to fit inside of and I want to buy a new GPU and a SSD. My questions for everyone here........ ( I am a complete noob at this)

1. Do I need to get a new motherboard for my CPU, RAM, GPU, HDD, and SSD?
2. If so, what are your recommendations on a new Motherboard, Graphics card and probably PSU?

Also I do not plan on overclocking/ don't really see a point to it for me.
Trying to spend as little as possible, but have a solid PC. I guess budget is around $500

Thanks for any response! Appreciate the help!!
Jon

Solution
1) New Motherboard yes since your Acer one is likely a custom job but the RAM, HDD and SSD should be re-usable (Are you certain it is DDR3 on a i7-6700?)
2) What are you wanting to achieve for this build. That Power Supply is too weak to run most modern GPUs like the RX 470 or higher but you might be able to manage a GTX 1050 Ti which can offer 1080p @ Medium/High settings in most games. For the Motherboard any B150/H170 should do the job since you are not overclocking. Hope this helps :)

If $500 is your budget you can get something pretty strong like this:

Motherboard: ASRock H170A-X1 ATX...

Video Card: EVGA GeForce GTX 1070 8GB SC GAMING ACX 3.0 Black Edition Video Card ($374.00 @ Amazon)

Total: $499.87

- Cheapest H170 ATX Motherboard (Plenty for your needs but still good features and quality)
- GTX 1070 EVGA SSC (A beast capable of max settings in 1080p and a solid performer in 1440p)
- A reliable and well-trusted SeaSonic 520W Bronze PSU.

If you don't game much though i would down the GPU to a GTX 1060 or RX 480 and use saved cash for a nice 80+ Gold Supply like the EVGA G2.

Solution
I'd stick with your mobo (you aren't OCing), CPU and RAM, get a decent PSU and a 1060 GPU. What resolution do you work at?

As to mobo, yes it might be 'custom' for Acer, but in the majority of cases, so what!, what is it missing, what feature do you need? What cards (aside from the GPU) will you be using, do you have slots for those, if not then what do you need? that will then drive your mobo choice. The Mobo above will require new ram as you have DDR3 (probably DDR3L).

An SSD would be nice, and give a better feel for the system.

Thanks for the response CRO5513Y and 13thmonkey. I work at 1080p and low to med settings for when I game. For the mobo, do the HDD, SDD, GPU, and RAM all connect to it? I dont have an SSD yet, but want one soon and I'm not sure whether i need a new mobo for the GPU and SSD to fit.

I want to buy as little as possible but still have a powerhouse PC. So how can i tell if my motherboard can fit a GPU and an SSD?

And yes it is DDR3, according to the box
