I have two Win7 Professional PCs; each in a cubicle on a small quiet LAN. Want to consolidate both PCs into 1 cubicle and use a single Keyboard & Mouse, and 4 (quad) monitors arranged across in a line - - - - . Remote Desktop won't do this unless the PCs run Ultimate or Enterprise. It appears Synergy is more of a KBM, requiring each system to have a monitor. A real quad monitor KVM switch is basically $500.

This seems like such a simple KVM issue only there are 4 monitors. Am I stuck using a $500 KVM switch or is there an alternative?

Some time ago I found a software called "Mouse Without Borders" which lets you setup multiple PCs over a spanned interface. Similar as when using multiple monitors under Windows. Easy system keeps its screens and the windows and programs on it, but you'll be able to move your mose/keyboard similar to a normal multi-monitor config.

I'm sure there are other programs that offer similar functionality.
