For some reason yesterday I stopped being able to visit monster.com. I don't know why it just stopped loading. I know this comes up a lot, but I tried the many solutions proposed here. The only thing that worked was switching my DNS to 8.8.8.8. The thing is why do I have to do that to get it work?

Solution
Since it works with google DNS then yes coincidence.

You could always set your router's IP as primary DNS which would then use your ISP, and google (or other) as secondary.
If switching to google DNS address works then the DNS service your ISP routes through is not working correctly. Large comapnies have more then 1 IP address and thus if one drops and a new one takes its place then the DNS server/service needs to be on top of it. In this case your ISPs DNS is not staying on top of it.

I always recommend people use google or other free dns service as running through whatever your ISP uses is often less reliable and slower to boot.

I did a DNS Benchmark and in terms of cached speed the ISP won, uncached though there were better alternatives, but surprisingly Google didn't beat my top ISP DNS. Will this fix itself eventually? Do I need to call my ISP if I wanted to not use Google's DNS?

Of course your ISP won, you are fetching DNS cached off of your ISP servers which is typically closer to you.
It probabbly takes 5-6 hops to get to ISP DNS cache, while 20+ to ge tto google's servers.

It is only faster if it is right, if the DNS is not getting the newest website information then speed is irrelevant.

Now also realize that your PC stores addresses for sites you have recently been to so as long as that is correct it wont have to fetch outside DNS servers.

Yea that makes sense, the question is, is there a way to solve this without using googles DNS? It's also weird it happen to be this site and at a time when I was using it the most. Coincidence?

I might try that. Any chance of it just fixing itself eventually?
