I was pretty set on getting an i7 7700k but Ryzen 5 decided to show up and somehow it's being praised a lot more than when the 7s hit (did they get tuned up?) and should I consider AMD? My other delema is I went and bought this cause the price was $173 and it seemed like a great buy: G.SKILL Ripjaws V Series 32GB (4 x 8GB) 288-Pin DDR4 SDRAM DDR4 3000

I'm seeing a lot of RAM issues with Ryzen which is off-putting, would that work if I went AMD, would it ever and will they be expanding supported speed?

7700k performs better for gaming right now and theres no reason to assume ryzen performance will magically receive optimization bumping it up. could it happen? sure, but you cant go on what might happen. based on the facts available right now, for gaming, the 7700k is the better choice.

The 7700k is still the king of gaming CPUs until proven otherwise. Ryzen *might* be as good or maybe a little better sometime in the future, but anything the Ryzen CPU can do the Intel can also do. It's best to be safe when spending a lot of money on a gaming rig that you're gonna have for a few+ years.

The "issue" with RAM and Ryzen is that there's an interconnect between the core modules that runs at a speed directly proportional to the speed of your RAM. This means that faster RAM will decrease the latency of that connection and give you better performance. Samsung B-die chips have been shown to have the highest compatibility with Ryzen, so I'd get a kit like this if you get an R5/R7, but it doesn't matter so much with intel.

The one up top might not be b-die if it's the CL15 model, you might want to read this. Not worth buying different RAM regardless, it's only the difference between 2933 and 3200.

But in your case I'd probably get the 7700k still anyways to be completely honest

Ya that's what I'm thinking, was curious as to what's going on with Ryzen and RAM though. Thanks!
