Two X5270s or E5450s for the HP XW6600?

Hello.
I got an HP XW6600 a year ago. It costed almost nothing so I thought I'd buy it, my rig back then wasn't even that good anyway.

Now, I don't really plan on replacing the whole workstation, but I'd like to have the best possible parts for it.
It's mainly for gaming (I'm not really into AAA, don't even play today's games except for some indie titles), development, and some light 2D/3D editing.

Current setup:
2x Xeon E5420 @ 2.5Ghz
GTX 950
16Gb DDR2 ECC Ram
120Gb SSD
2 x 500 Gb HDDs.

I don't want to max out anything (that's why I didn't buy a high-end gpu), but I'd like my games to run smoothly.

So, what would you recommend for this workstation, if you also consider gaming? Two X5270s, or two E5450s? I'm asking, because I feel like the the two dual cores at 3.5Ghz would be better for gaming. The two quad-cores at 3.0Ghz would be better for heavy multi-tasking but it also has a slightly higher clock than my current Xeons. Would it matter that much, or would it be better to get the dual-cores as they should(?) be better in performance/thread.
The price would be the same for both.

Thanks in advance.

Do you think it would be a significant improvement over my current one?
And would it be any worse for basic multi-tasking, like browsing while gaming, stuff like that?

Basic usage would probably be a little more responsive. Using 4 simultaneous threads to 100% is unusual for basic desktop. Browsing WHILE gaming might be worse.
I am not a gamer, so I comment on how it would compare to your current rig, but usually a 1Ghz clock speed upgrade is noticeable.
