Hey guys!

My build:
CPU: i5-2500k (not overclocked, base frequency at 3.3 ghz) with a Hyper 212 EVO cooler
GPU: Radeon Powercolor(Red Dragon) 4gb DDR3 Rx480
HDD: Seagate 1TB 7200RPM
PSU: Some 1000w PSU I got from a friend.. has no indication of its company/make or model.
RAM: 12 GB DDR3 Vengence
MOBO: MSI P67A-C43(B3) Socket 1155

I built my first computer this summer and just recently started having problems. I made no changes to my computer when this started happening so i'm going to list the most plausible solution off the bat, old and dying PSU.

Here's the issue;
*I cannot restart the computer, as it shuts off and doesn't turn back on.
*Once I turn off the computer, I cannot turn it back on unless I leave the PSU unplugged.
*The longer the computer is on, the longer I have to wait until I can use it again after I shut it
off. (I've done testing with this... the usual 3-4 hours I'm on during the day, it takes about one
hour for it to work again, if it's on a whole day, it can take up to 12 hours to a full day.)
* Will not *discharge* work again unless I unplug the PSU.

Here's my guess on what is going on;
I've been discussing this issue with my engineering professor, who said the issue sounds like a blown capacitor (already checked my motherboard... it's fine in that aspect) or a discharge problem (PSU... Mobo..?). She also mentioned a possible faulty ac-dc converter. My guess is that it is the PSU, as it is the oldest part in the build (again... I have NO idea how old it is).

What I've tried;
*Updating the BIOS
*Extensively cleaning the PC... rebuilt it/ cable-managed
*Breadboard
*(still in the works) Buying a new PSU
*Discharging in many different ways (holding down power button.. etc.)
*Unplugging the 24-pin connector and re-plugging it in.

Important information to mention;
Once the computer is completely shut down, testing the PSU is completely useless. By connecting the green line wire to a black line wire through the 'Paperclip test', I cannot turn the PSU on, as if it is dead. The fan doesn't come on which should indicate it is gone forever, yet it turns on the next day.

Any other solutions to this or confirmation on buying a new PSU would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Matt

P.S, I've looked online for a solution, even every article about it on this website yet none are exactly the same as my issue.
