Asus ROG Strix Z270E Wifi Disconnecting Under Load

Hi Guys,

I have an Asus ROG Strix Z270E mobo. When I go on utorrent and have about/or over 2 downloads running, my WIFI disconnects at random times.

Some details of my rig:
i7 7700k
Asus ROG Strix Z270E mobo
corsair h100i v2 cooler
32gb corsair lpx vengence 3200 ram
asus rog gtx 1060 6GB
Samsung evo 250gb ssd
segate barracuda 3tb 7200 hdd
evga 750w bronze psu
Windows 10 x64

I believe this is a problem with the motherboard because when this happens, my cellphone and laptop still have a connection with no issues. It is just my PC that gets disconnected. It automatically reconnects back within about 30 seconds.

This happened to me on 2 instances while gaming, although it has been much more rare - but still a nuisance getting dropped out of a live game.

Yes, I had the latest driver from the asus website.

I found 1 review on amazon where the reviewer suggested that the wifi and bluetooth suck with frequent disconnections (contrary to other reviewers saying this board is great)...and to download generic drivers which fixes his issue. I did this already by downloading the generic Intel wifi driver and uninstalling the qualcomm drivers. I did this both for wifi and bluetooth as I also had bluetooth issues. I still have this issue with disconnections even on my intel driver.

Did I potentially not uninstal the qualcomm driver correctly? Under device manager I still see "Qualcomm Atheros QCA61x4A Wireless Network Adapter" there (I previously uninstalled it from add/remove programs). Should I remove it from device manager maybe?

Any other suggestions possibly? I can almost for sure rule out it being my actual internet. Never had this issue with my laptops, phone, xbox in the exact same room. And no... its not possible for me to run an Ethernet cable in my room.

Bump... Am getting really frustrated now. Been looking at pcie wifi cards and 2 reviewers said they bought it to replace their Asus mobo wifi which keeps disconnecting. I must not be the only one with this issue. I'm at the point where I want to return this motherboard. Any suggestions?

I have been experiencing this recently myself. I noticed it after I updated my drivers from the ASUS support site. After trying a few things, I think I figured mine out. Try this if you haven't already: Go into device manager, right click on your "Qualcomm Altherous", properties, driver tab, update driver, browse my PC for driver software, let me pick from a list of device drivers....now I had 2 different versions (12.0.0.285 and 4.0.2.217) and my current version was the latest (12.0.0.285). I tried the older one and it worked flawlessly after that...I hope this helps!!

Hi Deja33, really appreciate the response. I tried to replicate your steps however I only have one version showing and not the old 4.0.2.217. Also, I searched for almost an hour for those drivers on google...can't find it. Is there any way you can link me or send those drivers to me?

The furthest back I can find on google is 4.0.2.262. I'm trying this one now.

Hi Deja33, I got the download thanks. How do you know which driver is being installed? For example...when I go to update drivers and let me pick, all I see is "Qualcomm Atheros QCA64x4A Wireless Network Adapter" show up twice in the "Select the device driver you want to install for this hardware."

Also, prior to me finding the 4.0.2.262, I already had this one from the Asus site, and only one showed up on select a drive. It was only when I found the .262 that I was able to see 2 - and I had to guess which one it was (as my first guess was wrong and had to reinstall a second time).

Stupid question - where is your wifi antenna? I just left the cable tied up and just stuck it to the side of my case since its magnetic. Wondering if I need to undo the cable and maybe move it some distance away from my PC. Doubt it has an affect but it crossed my mind.

Mine showed the version of the driver and release date, not sure why yours wouldn't...so you tried both drivers and it still has the issue? I think the only other stuff I installed was the LAN drivers and the Intel Driver Update Utility Installer, so not sure if one of those loaded those drivers on my PC. I am by no means a computer expert, lol, this is was first build. I was just messing with it and happen to figure it out...and the antenna thing, I have mine stuck to the side of my case, with the cable tie on still, LOL!

Same issue here and no resolution. Also having an issue with the mobo booting to a black screen with different color lines appearing in the middle, instead of the windows 10 login screen.

Had an ASRock mobo before with the same setup and never had these problems.

I can say that when I unplug the power source on the motherboard, the wifi starts working again. Otherwise, nothing else works (i.e. reinstalling windows, drivers for the bluetooth and wifi).

This is a persistent issue that occurs at least once a week and is really annoying.

CPU: 7700K
Memory: 16 GB corsair at 2400MHz
M.2 Drive: Toshiba RD400
GPU: ASUS GTX 1080 Ti
Cooler: Kraken x62
OS: Windows 10

Manual update from device manager will help. Qualcomm has released a driver 12.0.0.297 in Feb 2017. I have tested it and so far it works.
Go to device manager->Network adapter-> Qualcomm Atheros QCA61x4A-> right click->select update driver -> search automatically.

12.0.0.297 is not working for me.

The connection speeds keeps on fluctuating and sometime getting completely disconnected.

I think people I've been rolling back the network drivers.... That seems to fix it. Try whatever older ones you can find
