My residence is wired for Ethernet. I have an Xfinity Wireless AC/router modem combo but it doesn't reach the whole house. For the areas it doesn't reach, I've connected a WRT1200AC Linksys router. To set it up, I had to plug it into a computer that wasn't connected to the modem. I plugged it from a LAN port into my computer's Ethernet port. From there, I changed the IP address and named a 2.4 and 5ghz network and gave them passwords. Since I wasn't connected to the Internet due to it being plugged into a computer, I wasn't sure how to update. Now, I've unplugged it from my computer and plugged it into a wall Ethernet outlet. I tried typing in the IP address so I could update it, but that didn't work. How can I update it? (preferably without having to plug it into the Xfinity modem/router hybrid). Also, I have the channels set to auto on the Linksys, so I'm not sure if they interfere with the xfinity. Should I change it to any particular channel? I'm very ignorant when it comes to networking, so if you have any other suggestions to improve the set up, that would be great. The reason i got this router is not for my computer, but for wireless devices like my phone and Nintendo Switch.

I may be mistaken but if that unit has a USB port, you can download the firmware to usb and plug in directly to the router then go to your browser and type in the address to log into the router. Go into the router settings to update the firmware and you should see an option to search for the firmware and point it to the file on the usb stick.
