So i really need to upgrade some hardware in my pc to keep up with the lates game releases. I have the msi r9 270x 4gb with the amd a10 7800 CPU and I really am thirsting for an upgrade. I know that the 7800 isn't in any way a top tier cpu but I was just wondering if anyone knew if the bottleneck would give me little to no difference in performance. I just wanted to start by upgrading the gpu and the mobo/CPU later. Should I just go for the rx 480 for the time being?

You may not notice a performance gain.
That GPU you have now may not even be performing to its full potential. That GPU, an equivalent of R7 370, requires an FX 6300 for optimal performance, although I will not recommend AM3+.

I suggest you rebuild and go for a AM4 B350 board, DDR4 RAM and a Ryzen 5 1400 for now. That will be optimally suited for all your AAA gaming needs, and after you get RX 480, all your gaming wants.

I assume you are aiming for
Needs: 1080p avg 60 FPS High
Wants: 1080p min 60+ FPS Ultra

If you go 1440p/4K you need a GTX 1080. For 120 FPS you need Ryzen 7 1800X or i7 7700K.

time for a complete rebuild yes

that cpu is very weak, you can get the 480 first but be aware that you will not get advertized performance until you do switch platforms

Here's my build bud. Will take care of ALL your gaming needs for the next couple year's. If you have the cash I suggest you get a ryzen 1700.

Ryzen 1600 3.4Ghz CPU
EVGA GTX 1070 SC ACX 3.0 8GB
16GB CORSAIR VENGEANCE DDR4 3200
EVGA 750w PSU
AB350M Motherboard

You won't be disappointed
