Hello guys

I'm considering an upgrade from my GTX 770 3X WindForce to an Asus R9 290X. As I was looking through old benchmarks, the 290X is considerably winning, and as I continued comparing it to different cards for example the GTX 970, it went kind of toe to toe. But that's the old benchmarks, and as we all know, Nvidia tends to forget about their older cards, all they care about is money ( lol ). Not quite the case with Radeon.

Back to the point, though. I could also get a GTX 970, but the 290x seems cheaper, at least here, where I live. The gtx could go for around 400 Leva (the currency in Bulgaria). I have an offer for the Radeon card which is 240 Leva (the card is slightly modded though, the fans are from another card, but it works fine) 400 Leva ~ 218$ / 240 Leva ~ 130$. There is a huge difference in the prices of these cards, as i'm on budget.

Can someone tell me which card performs better? And which one to get, I'm not very expirienced

It's better in 2017 than it was in 2015 because of AMD's improvements to the GCN chip through the years, ''FineWine''.

It's still decent if you can find it for a good price. However, if it costs as much as an RX 470 or RX 480, I'd suggest one of those.
If you don't mind paying a bit more for electricity and having a louder card, the 290X is still a very capable graphics card. It's still getting updates, for example AMD just enabled the ASW feature for VR for the 290X in the last driver update.

Yes, I get it, but 290x will probably be a lot more powerful than the newer cards in the same price point. For example right now a GTX 1050 Ti is around 350 Leva ( ~ 190$ ) which is a more expensive and less powerful. The electricity bill doesn't concern me, as I'm living with my parents, and they don't mind it. My PSU could handle it as well, so why not.

Thanks for the reply! As mentioned in the previous reply of mine, I don't mind having a more power hungry card. What concerns me is only the power of this card.

Well, the guy said that the card hasn't exceeded 70 degrees C which is quite awkward, but I'm going to test it :)
