Please suggest if my existing PSU can power the new graphic card I plan to buy

My current PC configuration is as follows,

AMD FX 8320 processor
ASUS M5A97 LE R2.0 motherboard
Sapphire AMD HD 6670 1GB graphics card
Seasonic S12II series 520W PSU
Corsair Vengeance 4GB DDR3 RAM
2 x 160GB HDD
1TB HDD

I plan to buy the ASUS Radeon RX480 8GB STRIX OC edition and also plan to add another 4GB DDR3 RAM.

My question is, will my existing PSU be able to power my upgraded configuration?

  1. Best answer
That psu will be fine for those specs.
  2. your system with HD6670 consumed at most: 283w
your system with RX 480 consumed at most: 364w
the power supply has 6pin connectors

    your good to go
  3. Thank you bignastyid and The Paladin. One more question.
Which of the following graphics card would you suggest?

    1) ASUS Radeon RX480 8GB STRIX OC edition
    2) MSI GeForce GTX 1060 GAMING X 6GB
    3) ASUS Dual fan GTX 1060 6GB
    4) ASUS Dual fan Radeon RX480 8GB
  4. Option 1 or 2, which ever is cheaper.
  5. 1 or 2, but look at the EVGA 8GB RX480 OC

EVGA doesn't make an RX 480 they are exclusively Nvidia.

  8. why buy from amazon when newegg sells it for 20 less ?
  9. Ok. But is that the graphic card you are referring to?
  10. Ok..Now am confused between these two graphic cards

    MSI GeForce GTX 1060 GAMING X 6GB GDDR5
    https://www.newegg.com/global/in/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814127963

    XFX Radeon GTR RX 480 RX-480P8DBA6 8GB

    He already told you. ;)
  12. What about the performance?
  13. Roughly equal, depends on the game played. If it were my choice would i get the gtx 1060 in this instance.
If you want to look how these cards do in games you play read some reviews.
  14. I plan to play GTA 5 at 1080p resolution. Will it work fine?
The MSI 1060 is the customer choice on new egg while there are few complaints about the RX 480.
Although the performance is the same, I am confused over the memory they offer. Should I go for 8GB (future proof) or for the 6GB?
  15. The 2gb of extra ram is of no consequence. Don't get the RX 480 just for that extra ram.By the time 6gb becomes a limit is it time to upgrade anyway.
  16. Ok thanks folks. Locking in on MSI GTX 1060

GTA being DX11 the 1060 will be a little better. But overall the performance difference is so close it comes down to personal preference. Nvidia and AMD handle memory differently and I have seen some reviews that show at the same setting Nvidiai cards use less Vram than AMD but at 1080p it's pretty much a moot point.
