Hi all, I am currently waiting delivery of an MSI 970a Gaming Carbon edition, it can handle up to 2133MHz(OC) however I was sent some 2400MHz RAM as the ram I had ordered was no longer in stock. The question I have is "Will the MOBO/CPU throttle the RAM to run at the lower (supported) frequencies? Or will I have to request a refund and find RAM elsewhere? Thanks!

Solution

Your memory will start out at 1600 or 1866 and you will need to manually set the timings, speed and voltage to get it faster.
That would be the same if you had received 2133 memory.
Their no reason to send it back. Set your timings and voltage to the memory specifications on the package and the speed to 2133.
