Hello,

TL;DR
Looking for the best pre-build Computer under $1,700 that can handle Computer Animation, Gaming and VR (Prefer pre-built vs self build)

The story:
So right now I am a computer animation student running a school given MacBook Pro 2017. While it can get the job done I have noticed it has trouble with a few of my personal projects that are a little more intense than what I am currently going through in class.
I feel a lot more comfortable on a PC so would like to make the switch to a desktop that can run what I need it to run.
I'll be using a lot of Maya and Zbrush in the current term, but want to branch out to various other programs for 3D based work

Aside from that I want to build it up to enjoy my other interests which are video games and eventually VR when I get the Vive or oculus (once I figure out which one is more along my tastes.)

I did kick around the idea of getting a Dell area 51, then I remembered everything I read about it on price vs performance.

I looked around IbuyPower and a few others but the room started to spin after an hour or so of comparing products.

So that brings me here, to you fine people.
I would like to keep it under $1700 and prefer to have something with a payment plan, which I would probably have it payed off in a few months anyway. yeah building myself would be cheaper, but I would rather have something sooner than later in order to get my school work done.

A nice bonus would be something that can be upgraded at a later date so that when I need to I can swap out a parts.

Thank you in advance!

I'll make a parts list for you, go to a local PC store and have them assemble it with the remaining cost.
Assuming you're gaming at 1080p, you don't need anything above a 1070.
If you're working with a higher resolution let me know and I'll improve it.
I've included a fantastic value ten keyless mechanical keyboard and a good mouse.

I don't think anybody here would recommend a pre built. Apply for a CC if you must and pay a local trusted PC shop to build it or get a tech savvy friend to help you.
The OS should be free or cheap through the school.
I would go quite a bit different from the above since your using work programs mainly with gaming more of a afterthought.
6 Core 12 threads processor with 32 GB of memory. I would even consider the R7 1700X (8 core 16 threads) and 64GB of memory just to be through needing to upgrade their.
Not the best gaming or VR video card but has decent VR performance and will game on a 1080p monitor just fine. (can be upgraded later)
The smaller 120GB SSD is for a scratch drive that will also help.
Some overkill on the power supply but that's not a bad thing and will handle anything you upgrade to.
You could need a extra SATA cable their like 5 bucks.

You could get a single fan splitter cable instead of the hub. (2 into 1 for the board)
The H100i is AM4 ready I would mount that in the top of the case (fans blowing out) and the 2 extra fans in the front blowing in.
Your also going to need external backup for your work so make sure you get that. A decent USB 3.0 enclosure with a 1TB drive should work

There's some very unnecessary and erratic spendding there, a WD Black costs twice as much as a 2TB Barracuda which performs pretty damn similarly, you've also got one 120GB mid range SSD and a 500GB 850 Evo???
$1400 for an RX 480 1600X build is extremely poor value, please re-assess.
