Is this CPU worth upgrading?

So I have a AMD FX-6300 CPU hooked up to my GIGABYTE G70-A UD3P Motherboard with my RX 480, and I have all the signs of my CPU bottle necking (used GTA V to benchmark):
I had my GPU usage fluctuating and barely any changes to FPS (always lingered around 35-55) when lowering resolution, which were the main giveaways (Temperatures are fine)
But is it viable to upgrade the CPU to, say a FX 8350 or would it not have much of an impact on the more CPU intensive games due to how outdated these CPUs are nowadays?

Worst comes to worst I can get an AM4 MOBO and grab a Ryzen 5 but it's way too much money for me as an 18 year old student.
Any help appreciated.

Those fx6300 cpus are beasts when it comes to OC. It's one of the few things amd tried and actually got right. Cpus are susceptible to the silicon lottery, however, amd fx have proven to have a much smaller window of failures than Intel.
With a decent cooler, aiming at 5.0GHz on those cpus isn't a big stretch on faith, unlike Intel. Getting 4.6-4.8GHz will put an fx almost comparable to the Intel cpu's in many respects.

Thanks, just OC'd to 4GHz, won't go much higher without swapping factory heatsink. Performance is reasonably better.
