What video card should I buy for ~250 euro?

Hey,

I'm intending to upgrade my current video which is Radeon 6850. My budget is around 200-250 euro. My CPU is i5-2400. Mobo is Asrock H61DE/S3. Currently I have 2 1080p monitors (60hz). PSU is 520W Seasonic. 8 gigs of ram.

I play FPS games mostly and occasionally other types.

So, onto the new options. I am leaning slightly towards rx 480. I'm located in Bulgaria where it costs between 230-270 (4GB) and 270-330 (8GB) euro. GTX 1060 is in the same price range, but more on the 300+ euro side. Also rx 470 is around 200-250 euro.

I have the option to buy a second hand r9 290/390, gtx 970 in the range of 150-200 euro.

My questions:
1. Will my CPU be a bottleneck for any of these cards?
2. Should I save ~100 euro and go with r9 290/GTX 970?
3. If not which new card is most appropriate for me?
4. Should I wait for rx 580 as it is on the horizon as well?

TL;DR: Best video around 250 euro for 1080p gaming with i5-2400 cpu?

Wait for the RX 500 Series to see what that brings, leaks say it's coming within this upcoming week. See here >http://wccftech.com/amd-radeon-rx-580-570-560-550-launch-18-april/

1. Will my CPU be a bottleneck for any of these cards? If you don't go any higher than a GTX 1060/RX 480 it should be fine for the time being, but i would consider an upgrade when you can.
2. Should I save ~100 euro and go with r9 290/GTX 970?
No, not much point spending more to get older cards outperformed by the new ones already within that budget.
3. If not which new card is most appropriate for me?

In my opinion this is the best card within your budget of 250 Euro (Remember this may change depending on country since this is France for reference) > https://fr.pcpartpicker.com/product/d8rcCJ/xfx-radeon-rx-480-8gb-xxx-oc-video-card-rx-480m8bfa6. The RX 480 8GB would be an excellent card for your setup at 1080p. Note this is a blow cooler which arn't the most efficient but the open coolers are above your budget.
4. Should I wait for rx 580 as it is on the horizon as well?
Yes, only a few more days.

The closest place to Bulgaria on PCCP is Italy. This is the best card you can get within your budget from Italy > https://it.pcpartpicker.com/product/29wqqs/xfx-radeon-rx-480-8gb-rs-video-card-rx-480p8lfb6. It's an open cooler too which is better than the previous one listed, you should probably check out some local Bulgarian stores too just try find an RX 480 8GB or GTX 1060 6GB within your budget if you can. But as already advised many times now, wait and see how the RX 500 series goes. Hope this helps :)

About the older cards. If i choose that path I would, be spending less, not more on R9 290/GTX 970...

Ohh i see, sorry i took "save" as in save up more cash haha. :p

Either way, you have the budget to get an RX 480 or GTX 1060 which outperform both those older cards and imo it's worth the extra cash. But overall waiting for the RX 500 series will be your best bet, if you don't grab an RX 500 card then even the older RX 400 cards will probably be seen on clearance across the Internet meaning you might find a cheap RX 480 than they are now. :D

Just an update. Got a Gigabyte Gaming G1 Rx 480 from a local guy. The card seems fine. Ran 3D Mark Time Spy - result around 4000 for the card and barely 950 for the CPU (i5-2400). So something isn't right. How do I tell what is underperforming in my config?
