Cannot mark partition as active even though I am administrator

Hi all

Just recently found out I cannot save data onto my larger hard drive as it as an inactive partition (I'm struggling to understand any of this). I am an administrator so my problem seems to have eloquently bypassed the solutions I have come across on other online forums on this subject, I'm assuming the issue is that I haven't activated windows? I want to be sure activating windows will solve this issue first before I spend any actual money.

When I am in disk management the activate partition option is grey such that I can't click it for any of my drives, even the one that is active. Again I haven't activated windows and I'm assuming that is the issue here but I honestly couldn't know either way.

Activated or non-activated windows shouldn't be an issue here.

In disk management, there can be system reserved partitions, primary partions (for your OS or general storage), and unallocated space. You can delete or reformat these volumes simply by right clicking on them. For unallocated space, you will select the create new simple volume, give it a name, and set the size you desire.

If this does not work, does you mean you can't right click on them? Maybe you can provide an image of what you are seeing to help us visualize what is going on?

Sorry I voted down your thing, I'm still getting used to this website. I tried doing what you told me it command prompt but it didn't work. I remember something came up saying that the hard drive was "read only", Idk how to change that or if I even can conventionally.

I fixed the downvote :)

can you show us a screen shot of Disk management as you don't want to set anything other than the MBR or EFI partition as active or win 10 won't boot.
