hello, i have installed a linux on my new build because i didnt have the money to pay for a windows and wanted to test the system out, now i managed to get a copy of a windows 7 CD on my USB but anytime i try to launch the instalation it says there is not enough space on my drive, i have a 512 GB SSD and a 2TB HDD so im sure thats not really the problem, i think linux messed things up so im looking to uninstall my linux mint and start from scratch, but cant manage to either uninstall the existing linux OS, any suggestions?

Solution

I'm confused, if the USB is not bootable how are you installing Windows from it? If it's not booting off the USB drive how are you trying to start the Windows 7 setup? Does not sound like you are doing the setup in the right way. Did you just copy the disk files to the USB drive? If you make the boot disk correctly on the USB you will not be seeing 28 gb of...
You don't need to uninstall anything, boot off the Windows disk, go into the advanced disk options in the setup menu, delete the existing partition on the SSD (assuming that is where you will be installing things), start the Windows setup. It will delete the existing Linux setup and partition and create a new one to use.

If you make the boot disk correctly on the USB you will not be seeing 28 gb of free space since it will create a much smaller partition to use and the rest will be unalocated and unformatted space.

First thing, make a correct USB setup disk that boots, if you have a Windows 7 disk, make an ISO of it on your computer, then using the Microsoft ISO to USB utility make a bootable USB stick. Or just use the original DVD if you have an optical drive.
