Hello everyone. I'm looking for a GPU that will provide the maximum benefit for my nearly 10 year old PC. I'm looking for something reasonably cheap as I don't have much money, but my current GPU is struggling to keep up with the latest games even on the minimum graphics settings.

My current spec is:

Motherboard: ConRoe1332-eSATA2
Processor: Intel core 2 duo E8500
RAM: 4GB DDR2
GPU: NVIDIA GeForce 9800 GT 512MB

I know it's awful

Thanks in advance.

"my current GPU is struggling to keep up with the latest games"

The latest games, even at 720p and low settings, are going to require more vram than the 9800GT has. That's one reason your performance is struggling. So, assuming you're going to try to play the latest games at 1080p, I recommend a 2gb DDR5 videocard that has a 128 bit memory bus as the baseline of what you need. I would buy used if possible, in order to get the most performance at lower cost.

Of new cards, the RX 460 2gb is your best bet. Uses low power, can run the latest games, and is most likely to be compatible with your motherboard. Of older cards, the AMD HD 7850/7870 and Nvidia GTX 660 are worth looking at. The only thing is that older cards tend to be more power...

So a low power card like the 460 might ultimately be the best choice.
