Another day, another thread *sigh*

So guys, if u read my last threads, I was chosing between an expensive 970 at about 200$ and a 290x at around 120$, but now I got an offer for the 970 for about the same as 290x....

Please, give me considerable info about which one to get and which one is better ( its about rough performance in games and gaming overall i dont give a fuck about my electricity bill even the slightest bit and my PSU is able to handle both, so which one is better)

I was under the same dilemma until now. I would suggest the and r9 290x. Here are the benchmarks:
http://gpu.userbenchmark.com/Compare/Nvidia-GTX-970-vs-AMD-R9-290X/2577vs2166
Plus, AMD supports older cards for a bit longer. For example, the r9 290 gets the vr ready, but the 780 ti which was released after the 290 doesn't, the 970 does. Plus, the VR minimum is gtx 970/ r9 290, suggesting that the 290 is a 970. a 290x is better in this regard, but it can produce a lot of heat if you get the reference edition.

290x if you have a good 650w power supply

970 otherwise

it was the other way around actually. the issue with kepler have to do with the architecture itself. not because nvidia stop supporting them. xbox one and PS4 is using AMD GCN and that also at the same time change the game development focus more towards AMD hardware. maxwell was created to address this issue. when Oculus announce the support for ASW only AMD RX400 series was supported while for nvidia card it works for both maxwell and pascal GPU (900 and 1000 series).

The hardware requirements for ASW are modest. This functionality has been enabled on all current-generation AMD GPUs (RX 400 series) and previous- or current-generation Nvidia GPUs (GTX 900 or 1000 series).
