Graphics card and CPU

Hi I would like to know if my AMD Athlon (tm) II X3 445 Processor 3.10GHz would be able to run a GTX 750 ti 2GB GDDR5 graphics card. Thanks

Solution
Yes, but I would not recommend it. Your PC can run as high as the 1050ti since like the 750ti it does not need much electricity. But your CPU is very old and very weak and would bottle neck the graphics card. A used PC with an i3-6100 is very cheap and even though it is the slowest modern CPU it would still be much better than your current one and not bottle neck except on the newest titles (where the graphics card would also struggle a little).

I've run some games on a 445 with a couple of different videocards. On some games, older and/or less demanding, you can get good performance out of a 750 Ti. On newer, more CPU demanding games, you'll hit a performance limit around GTX 650 Ti/660 level.

I think the pluses, the games that can benefit, outweigh the negatives because you'd have to be crazy to try and play those more demanding games with such an old CPU to begin with.

So as long as this isn't an upgrade for Battlefield 1 for example, it's not a bad upgrade.

Ok, thanks..... I also have a gigabyte technology ga-78lmt-s2p which has a PCI-E 2.0 x16, would it be able to run the GTX 750 ti? Thanks

Ok then can you recommend any graphics card that can suit my cpu? I'm not looking for 60+ fps on ultra just 30-45 fps on medium. Thanks

Not looking for crazy results like 60+ fps on ultra because I know my cpu can't handle that as you implied. But is it worth buying the gtx 750 ti and how much performance (in percentage) would you say I would get out of this card with my cpu? Thanks

Yes, that board will be quite fine with ant PCIe x16 graphics card. I have (and have tested) several older Athlons including the X3 445. And have both the 750 Ti and 1050 Ti cards in my collection. The GTX 750 Ti would be an excellent choice to get the most from that old processor at 1080p and lower resolution. The GTX 1050 Ti being an even better choice (IMO) if you have the money. You may run into some CPU bottleneck now and then (which won't hurt a thing), but on games that are GPU limited, it will make gaming much more fun than the GTX 750 Ti.

Ok thanks a lot. But do you think I may get CPU bottleneck with the GTX 750 Ti or can CPU handle it? Thanks

You may get some CPU bottleneck on some highly CPU-limited games at high settings, yes. But changing to a lesser card will not improve overall gaming satisfaction. If you want to eliminate the very possibility of any CPU bottleneck ever... then you will have to settle for a very anemic card.
And if you multi-player game on busy servers, the aging triple-core will take an even greater hit. But going to a lesser card won't make it any smoother. The only thing a lesser card may help, is your wallet.

Ok thanks.

It's not that you wouldn't get crazy good results, it's that you'd get terrible results on certain games. You're not going to enjoy a multiplayer game like Battlefield 1 on a 445 no matter what card you get. The CPU just isn't enough. The framerate is going to be choppy no matter what.

Not all games are like that. As long as you stick to the games that are less demanding on CPUs, then adding a 750 Ti will be worth it.

Depends on the game and the settings, but most modern games, unless you turn it way down it will be a slideshow.
