Hello everyone,

I am building a gaming computer from scratch and I am considering three monitors:
- AOC G2460PG (1980x1080 w/ G-Sync - it's the one I was initially considering)
- AOC AGON AG241QX (2560x1440 w/o G-Sync - with FreeSync, but I am no planning on getting an AMD GPU)
- AOC AGON AG241QG (2560x1440 w/ G-Sync - best of both worlds, but higher cost)

Basicly all those monitors have the same specs except for the resolution and the g-sync.

My question is the following : is the G-Sync really worth it over a resolution upgrade ? And if both are valuable, is the AG241QG worth it compared to the other ones ?

Thank you!

EDIT: I plan to have a GTX 1070 GPU, so I should be able to run a 2560x1440 resolution configuration without any problem I think.

It all depends on what your preferences are. I personally would prefer smoother FPS over a higher resolution so a G-Sync monitor would be my choice. 1080p is perfectly fine in my opinion for a gaming resolution. If you like the higher res. and can afford the one that has both 1440p with G-Sync then do it as G-Sync makes a universe of a difference in gaming FPS. On top of that you are not only getting the higher res with G-Sync but also a higher Hz cap for only a $100 more than the 1080p G-Sync monitor so I'd say if you can afford the $500 one go with it. If you'd like a recommendation for a different brand with a different and possibly better price-to-features-to-build quality ratio we can also do that but since you didn't ask for one I...

P.S. - If all you plan on doing with the monitor is gaming and naturally regular PC stuff then AOC is fine. If you are looking at getting into content creation with photo and video editing then you should be going with a better monitor that has more accurate colors and whatnot.

Thank you for your answer, it is way more clear now!

To answer some of your questions:
- I am planning on using my computer for gaming and programming, but no video/photo editing whatsoever
- I have a 10% discount on AOC products right now, so I am not sure something can compete with that (may be wrong though)

In the end, it all comes down to do I get the G-Sync monitor with the best resolution or not as G-Sync makes a hell of a difference (as you say) in gaming. I will keep thinking about it until the discount is to end.

No need to think about it. Since you are not doing any audio/video editing you do not need super-accurate color spacing on the monitor there for you are fine for gaming. And since you have a discount go for it if you can afford the one that has both G-Sync and higher resolution. On a side note there will be spring Black Friday sales going on soon and if your discount will last through that definitely hold on to it and see what kind of deals you can get on better brands and then compare. If you're discount does not last through the spring Black Friday sales that will be going on soon as of current you can say that your discount will get you a pretty good deal but at the same time spring Black Friday deals can save you more than 10% sometimes so it's up to you

The discount ends Friday 21, so I have already made my choice and bought the best one (and the most expensive)! Thank you a lot, you really helped me.

As for the black Friday, as I live in France I don't know if there are events like that here. Since I assume you live in the UK (UK forums), do you recommend some internet stores over there where I could benefit from black Friday? I still have a lot of components to buy, so it may be quite interesting!

I don't live in the UK. I live in US. But these sales I'm talking about are online mostly so you can take advantage of them from almost anywhere. Places like Amazon and Newegg have these kinds of sales going on. And as for games you can definitely get huge savings on steam.
