I downlaoded the bios update for GA-965G-DS3 (rev. 1.0) then I formatted my usb in Fat32 and put the download on there as seen in 2nd picture

I go update the bios on the motherboard and it only gives option to do that from floppy drive how do I change it or what did I do wrong?

It did when I had win7 on it, but I'm not sure if it does now. Is there a way to change the "floppy" directory to like USB? I got the bios on the flash drive formatted in Fat32

I've been playing around in settings for 10 minutes can't get anywhere far

Manual says "2. Extract the BIOS file downloaded and save the BIOS file (the one with model name.Fxx. For
example, 8KNXPU.Fba) to a FRICKING FLOPPY DISK."

first off see if the mb itself has a bios update tool in the bios. if it does all you need is to point to the bios file on the usb stick. have the stick pluigged in before you power it on.
you need to download the newest AWARD BIOS tool to boot from a usb stick.

By the sounds of it youre doing something wrong if ahci or whatever is crashing

You dont need ahci to boot from a flash drive,.if the bios supports booting from one

Like I said if it supported booting from a flash drive you could use rufus create a freedos flash drive, copy the file to it (if it has to run in DOS). Then boot from it

It boots from USB but gives ahci related blue screen error after windows installer loads files

And this is why I'm updating the bios to try and resolve this

I wasnt talking about the flash drive to install windows.

I was talking about flashing the bios with it. If the mobo supports booting from a flash drive

If you use rufus and create a freedos flash drive if the system supports booting from a flash drive, it boots into DOS. It DOESN'T install Windows

So the bios can be updated. If the bios update can only be updated in DOS

And if youre trying to install windows what version of windows is it??

Because you'll need sata drivers if it's XP. Or if AHCI is enabled in the BIOS, disable it

Win7, 8 and 10 have generic sata drivers.

So I have no idea why it's crashing with a AHCI stop error. Unless the hdd or the flash drive is screwed

And it'll also depend on how you put the Win7 install on the flash drive.

Found option to change AHCI, and I can only switch between that or IDE. Switched to IDE, still crashes with same error. Tried with windows 7 and 10 installations. Cleared cmos. Still same thing at default settings.

I need to update the bios from the bios. Please I need this resolved asap.
