Which GPU offers the most value for money in 1080p?

Hello :)
Recently my PSU blowed up so my motherboard, my PSU (obviously), my GPU and my processor died.
I managed to get RMA's for my motherboard and my processor, and bought a new PSU but I'm still missing a GPU here. I cant send back the GPU because I've tampered the warranty already that I replaced the default TIM with a Grizzly Kryonaut and put thermal pads on the VRAMS modules (I guess)

My previous setup:
Intel i5-6600K @ 4.8Ghz
Asus Z170 Pro Gaming
16GB Corsair Vengeance LPX 2666
Asus GTX 970 OC Edition
and an old Vantec Ion 700W PSU.

Before this I can achieve most, if not all games maxed out despite the 3.5GB RAM debacle and new games chewing more than 4GB even at 1080p, but just gonna ask the lads here, what would be the best FPS per dollar GPU out there? Be it anything from the GTX 10-Series or the Radeon RX4XX/5XX series. Suggestions? My new PSU is a VS 450, but that's just temporary. Gonna get RM650X later.

I'm also planning to replace the Intel setup with a Ryzen 5 1600X+X370 combo later on, its also a help if you guys think of this too!. Thanks in advance!

Solution
The ryzen 1600/is 6 core hyper threaded mate - meaning 12 threads as opposed to the i5's 4.
Its still a maturing chipset so there are teething issues with obtaining efficient usage of these extra threads.

In certain tasks the ryzen 1600 stomps all over a skylake/kaby lake i7 let alone an i5.

The future will bring improvements without a doubt. I was going with the ryzen 1600 myself but managed to grab a 1700 at a bargain price.
The best fps per dollar depends on your location & prices

UK/USA/mainland Europe - RX 480 4gb without a shadow of a doubt.

Asia/India/China - nvidia tends to be cheaper - not particularly cheap still , just the amd cards seem to be horrendously overpriced for some reason.

Re - what lucky SLS said - the 1600x isn't at a great pricepoint & doesn't come with a cooler
By the time you factor in a cooler you're close to ryzen 7 1700 8 core pricepoints (which does come with a cooler capable of 3.7/3.8ghz ) .
Vice versa the r5 1600 - the 1600 & 1700 are the sensible buys IMO.

Reminds me of people buying the 6350 over the 6300 & the 8370/8350 over the cheaper 8300/8320 - wasted money at the end of the day IMO if you don't mind putting a bit of work in overclocking.

Here in Malaysia, some e-tailers sell the Sapphire Nitro RX480 8GB at the same price of a GTX 1060 3GB edition. Not sure in China and other parts of Asia though. Do you think the 1080Ti/1080 are overkill? Might enable VSR/DSR in that regard.

Might get myself the 1600 then! but i got to change my cooler. Now im using the Seidon 120V Plus, but im thinking to go air again. maybe a Cryorig H7/R1 would do? Ryzen dont overclock more than 4.0/4,1 tho, thats quite a bummer :(

RX580 is cheaper i heard than the 480?

Might consider the 1060 with 6GB or the RX580/480 8GB. But if I get the 1080Ti/1080, would it be overkill for 1080p? Because I see some games even totrure the 1080 in games at 1080p

Alright then, but how does it stack against my current i5-6600K when OC to OC? Or roughly just a sidegrade plus 2 cores?

Seems good to me! Thanks for the explanation!

How does it perform (the 1700) for you?
