What Motherboard and RAM should I use?

Solution

I have an 1800X its great, but for a less money the 1700X provides like 99% of the performance especially when...

Thats a solid gaming machine, the motherboard and ram you selected are good. That board will allow you to overclock the processor quite a bit safely, if you're looking to do that.

The ram you got is a bit expensive, you can drop to DDR4-3000 save nearly $100 and see very little difference in performance if any.

Can you send me a link to one? Also is there any other better RAM to get from a different brand? Lastly im probably not going to overclock right now, but maybe in the future.

Edit: I take that back, Strix 1080 ti seems to be rather overpriced nowadays.
Go with the MSI Gaming X then:

I wouldn't even change the RAM. Why do you want that? if you want a different brand then anything else I'd recommend other than G. Skill is Kingston and Corsair.

Try this version of your build

Corsair Vengeance is excellent quality. I always use it

I would choose a few things differently. That motherboard price is crazy, as is the headset price. The 850 evo is a nice drive, but it's price is way too high vs an MX300 1.1tb. You can save a good amount of money, without losing out on performance, with some changes. Is this going to be strictly a gaming rig?

You could still save a good $300, and get an even faster SSD, if that matters to you.

If you think you would be doing any kind of recording/streaming, or video editing, I would consider a Ryzen build, with either of the SSD's I listed.

Both links you posted are the same. The ram he selected is $209. Its a waste of money.

I don't know about strictly gaming... I might randomly stream or record time to time. But how big of a difference would it be for using your bottom part list that is listed above instead of mine for just streaming or recording at most once a week? Thank you for the lists, I'll make sure to look at them.

I dont have any real reason for going for a certain RAM except that RGB would be cool to have but I didnt really see any ones that were 2x16gb at 3000mhz for G.Skillz.

Get the 3600 mhz then, I wouldn't say no to it if you can afford it. I would however say no if you want to switch to the 1080 I suggested.

Ryzen 7 is superior for streaming/recording, as it has twice the cores, and twice the threads. In strictly gaming, Intel still wins out, but not by a huge margin. Actually at 1440p, you probably wouldn't even be able to tell the two apart. Ryzen 7 is a very capable CPU. The most exciting lineup, from AMD, in years. Even the 1600x is pretty solid performer, for recording, but your budget is high enough to justify going with the better multitasking 1700x.

Anything bad about 1800x? If I switch to Ryzen, would I have to change a lot of parts of my builds? If im gaming 80% and maybe streaming 20% is it worth it?

is 16gb good enough? Some people have told me to move up to 32gb, also im probably planning to not use the FE of the 1080ti and I will have to look at which edition I should get.

16gb is fine, 32gb is a waste of money as well, unless you are an insane multitasker (which you are not even with streaming) you'd never need it.

Will this be good for VR too?

Yes 16 GB is more than enough in my opinion.
