As title says i just bought a new SSD and id like some help on how to transfer my OS to the ssd and what other stuff i should move over to the SSD (i play games and want to stream).

Do i need my windows key or anything like that? No idea so detail but not too confusing would be really helpful. Thanks.

Yes, that moves everything from Drive A to Drive B.
There is no pick and choose, except for stuff like doc/music/video. And that, only if you move those elsewhere first, or use the Samsung Data Migration tool, which allows you to deselect those file types.

So...in your current situation, you move everything over to the new drive, wipe the old drive once you are satisfied it works well, then move some stuff from the SSD to the old HDD.

But during the cloning process, you can't pick and choose...

If you just change your ssd, you don't need a new Windows key, Windows knows that it's the same computer.

As for moving your OS over to the SSD you'll need a software like Macrum Reflect or Acronis to make an image of the drive and transfer it to the SSD. You'll also need an usb external enclosure/dock.

Of course all this depends on the used space of your HD vs. the size of your SSD.

1. How large is the SSD?
2. How much total used space is consumed on your current drive?

Assuming 1 is larger than 2, and assuming this is a desktop, this is how you do it:
-----------------------------
Verify the actual used space on the current drive is significantly below the size of the new SSD
Download and install Macrium Reflect (or Samsung Data Migration, if a Samsung SSD)
Power off
Disconnect ALL drives except the current C and the new SSD
Power up
Run the Macrium Reflect (or Samsung Data Migration)
Select ALL the partitions on the existing C drive
Click the 'Clone' button
Wait until it is done
When it finishes, power off
Disconnect ALL drives except for the new SSD
Swap the SATA cables around so that the new drive is connected to the same SATA port as the old drive
Power up, and verify the BIOS boot order
If good, continue the power up

It should boot from the new drive, just like the old drive.
Maybe reboot a time or two, just to make sure.

If it works, and it should, all is good.

Later, reconnect the old drive and wipe as necessary.
Delete the original boot partitions, here:

@USAFRet. 250GB samsung evo 850 and used 200GB on my HDD. Does the list of things you've said to do copy everything? I only want my OS + things i actually need on the SSD so i guess things like steam games and maybe chrome?

Thanks.
