Hello im looking for a new GPU for my pc im finding the rx480 apprx. 300 euros, but at the same time a partner from work is selling me his 980ti (330€) that is used for around 2 years without overclock. I know that 980 ti is by far a better card by it is already almost 3 years old and im worrying for nvidia update issues also for product long living...so i really need a help here

GPUs should last a good while - outside of just electronic failure that happens. I've had HDDs, DVD players, VHS players and so on die after 6-12 months. Whereas I've had HDDs last 7+ years and I still make use of them, GPUs that were used/abused for 6-7 years and still works to this day. I had two GTX 280s I ran in SLI for about 2.5 years. I ended up going to a GTX 570 SLI setup and gave one of the GTX 280 cards to my younger brother. He used it for 4 years (never cleaned it out - the dust on it was so thick!) and it still works to this day. Once I got the card back I spent 30 minutes cleaning it and applying new TIM. I then picked up a 980Ti (still using it) about 1.5 years back and gave one of my GTX 570s to my brother. I used it for...

Just by performance, the GTX 980Ti is clearly superior, even if it is a little older. It is around the level of a modern GTX 1070. You can seem some comparisons here:
http://gpu.userbenchmark.com/Compare/Nvidia-GTX-980-Ti-vs-AMD-RX-480/3439vs3634
http://www.hwcompare.com/30694/geforce-gtx-980-ti-vs-radeon-rx-480/

However, the GTX 980Ti does use up a fair bit more power, at 250Watts. This card is also already used and doesn't have warranty, unlike if you bought something new.

Thank you for you reply,

Power is not the problem i have the corsair RM-1000, my only thoughts is just for any hardware issue that may i have lets say in a year or something like that and then i will have to buy again a new card...from the other hand a brand new 1070 will cost me more than 150€ more from rx480

That card isn't even two years old yet. It came out in June 2015. nVidia is still releasing drivers for the GTX 660. I don't think you are going to have to worry about them dropping support anytime soon.

As for price. I suppose that depends on your country. On PCPartpicker, the average starting price in the EU is about 250 Euros for the Rx480 8GB. The average starting price for the GTX 1070 8GB is 400 Euro. I'd rather spend the extra 70 Euro for a 1 Year warranty (or is it longer in Europe due to consumer laws) and a faster GPU. I think a fair deal would be to take 10% off the price of a GTX 1070 price for the performance downgrade. Then whatever the balance is take off an additional 20% for being used without a warranty. Perhaps that isn't the used market value. But that is the most I would pay for old equipment.

If you can get a GTX 1070 for 400 Euro. I would say 288 Euros is a fair price for a used out of warranty GTX 980 Ti. You're taking the risk that it will crap out on you and you will be SOL.

If you need more power, the 980Ti is the way to go.

But, as others have said, you're buying it used. There's always possibility of any piece of electronic equipment failing (regardless of age). In your case, you would have no warranty coverage on it unless your work partner is okay with setting in a RMA under his info (since he purchased it) for you should it fail.

Your answer was very helpful, actually that is the way i like to thinking. For the record rx480 8gb yes the starting price is appx. 250€ with Asus be the most expensive with price 300-320€. 1070 starting from 430 up to 570€. I will request an additinal discount from my partner i believe i can get the 980ti (MSI) for apprx. 300€
